So I just put my deposit down for the R2 and honestly Im already stressing about how to outfit this thing when it finally arrives in a couple years. I live in Seattle so its gonna be rainy all the time and I need to keep the interior from getting trashed by my wet dog and hiking boots. Im looking at the floor mat situation and totally torn between waiting for the official Rivian all-weather mats or just going with something like WeatherTech or even TuxMat if they eventually make them for the smaller platform. The official ones look cool but are probably gonna be way more expensive right?
My constraints:
Also trying to decide on the charging situation. Should I get the Rivian wall charger or just a generic one like the Grizzl-E? Im worried if I get the generic one I might miss out on some software integration but the Rivian one is like $500 more. If anyone has experience with the R1S or R1T gear and how it holds up that would be huge because I dont want to waste money on stuff that feels cheap or doesnt fit the smaller R2 frame...
In my experience, skip the official charger.
^ This. Also, if youre staying under budget, the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 14-50 Plug is a solid, safe choice. It lacks app bloat but works well in damp conditions.
> Im looking at the floor mat situation and totally torn between waiting for the official Rivian all-weather mats or just going with something like WeatherTech I've tried many setups over the years, and honestly, wait for the TuxMat All-Weather Custom Car Mats. In my experience, they handle the PNW mud way better than the official ones. For charging, dont waste cash on the brand-name box. I've used a Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40A for years and it is basically bulletproof without the buggy software.
Just found this thread and honestly im in the exact same boat with the R2 deposit. My garage is a total disaster zone so space is my biggest anxiety right now too. Totally agree with the point about skipping the app bloat for the charger. Over the years ive seen way too many smart units brick themselves during a random firmware update or lose connectivity right when you need to schedule a charge. Tbh i just want something that wont melt my outlet or fail when it gets cold out. Safety is basically my main priority since i leave it plugged in overnight. Ive seen some pretty sketchy wiring jobs where people try to save a buck and end up with charred connectors or thermal runaway. Since the R2 is native NACS, im focused on finding a setup that manages the constant 48-amp load without getting too hot.
