I’m absolutely loving my new R1S, but with two messy kids and a golden retriever, I’m getting a bit nervous about keeping the vegan leather in pristine condition. I want to find seat covers that offer heavy-duty protection against spills and pet hair without sacrificing the functionality of the heated and ventilated seats. I've looked at a few universal options, but I'm worried about the fit around the unique headrests and the side airbags. Does anyone have experience with custom-fit brands like Taptes or EV Sportline? I’m looking for something durable that doesn't look like a cheap universal throw. What are the best seat covers you’ve found that actually fit the Rivian interior properly?
I went through this last year after bringing home a very muddy lab and two kids who think the back seat is a dining room lol. Honestly, my biggest concern was 100% the airbags. I was super paranoid that a cheap cover would block them from deploying, which is literally the last thing you want in a family car. I ended up spending a bit more on custom-fit covers from EV Sportline because they have those specific breakaway seams. It was a chunk of change for sure, but way cheaper than replacing the OEM vegan leather if it got shredded!! The fit is actually insane—it basically looks like the original seats and doesn't mess with the cooling or heating at all, which I was worried about. Seriously, seeing how they've held up against claws and juice boxes... totally worth the peace of mind. gl!
Here's what I recommend: definitely check out EV Sportline! I've been using them for years and they're amazing... reallyyy durable for the kids and dog. ngl the fit is fantastic!!
@Reply #4 - good point! Airbag safety is the main thing I looked at before I bought anything. I spent a lot of time comparing the stitching specs between a few different manufacturers. Honestly, I'm really satisfied with the set I ended up with... they use a specific breakaway thread that mimics the factory seams. I actually tried a cheaper set from a generic brand before this and it was a total fail. The material was way too thick and basically blocked all the airflow from the ventilated seats. The current setup I have is way better since it's perforated. I also noticed the cheaper ones didn't have the right cutouts for the seat sensors, so the car kept thinking someone was in the seat when it was empty. The ones I'm using now fit the R1S geometry perfectly. No complaints so far, even with the dog jumping all over them. It really pays to look at the technical specs of the material breathability before you buy.
Saving this whole thread. So much good info here you guys are awesome.
Seconding the recommendation above. Honestly, going with custom-fit options from a brand like EV Sportline is probably the SAFEST bet because of the side airbag situation. I've been doing some research since I'm also a bit new to this, and if the cover isn't designed with specific breakaway seams, the airbag might not deploy correctly during an accident... which is a major safety risk you gotta consider. Taptes is another brand I've seen mentioned a lot, but you should probably verify their testing data first.
Also, regarding those ventilated seats - it's basically a trade-off. Any heavy-duty protection is gonna block some of that airflow, so maybe look for something with perforations? If ur mostly worried about the dog, maybe just get a rugged bench protector from any reputable EV brand. It's easier to remove than a full seat skin. Just make sure whatever you pick is actually made for the Rivian's unique dimensions and not just a 'close enough' fit. gl!
Any updates on this?
