I’m looking for a sunshade that truly fits the R1S windshield edge-to-edge. I've tried a few universal ones, but the massive glass and that rearview mirror housing make it tricky to get a snug fit. Does anyone have experience with the HeatShield or WeatherTech versions? I’m hoping to find one that doesn't sag in the middle. Which brand provides the best custom fit for our SUVs?
sooo i've been looking into this too and honestly that mirror housing is basically the biggest issue!! i'm pretty new to all this but i'd say just go with WeatherTech and you're good. i mean, they usually have the most technical laser-cut designs so they dont sag as much as the cheapo ones. definitely be careful putting it in tho cuz i'm worried about the dash trim! good luck!
This^ Also wanted to add that I totally agree with the first reply about those stiff shades scratching the trim. Honestly, it's so frustrating spending that much money just to have the edges scuff up your R1S interior. My biggest concern is actually safety—I’ve had issues with heavier shades basically sagging and putting pressure on the rearview mirror housing. You really dont want to mess with the ADAS cameras or the sensors up there!
IIRC, some people were talking about Covercraft versions, but I’m not 100% sure if their R1S fit is truly "edge-to-edge" yet. Compared to the HeatShield, the folding style is usually more sturdy, but it's a huge pain to store. Personally, I tried a generic pop-up wire shade and it was a disaster... way too much sag in the middle. If you go with WeatherTech, just be super careful when you're installing it so you don't knock the mirror alignment. Honestly, there isn't a "perfect" one yet which is kinda disappointing for such a high-end SUV. lol good luck tho!
Ok so honestly watch out with those stiff ones cuz they literally scratch the R1S trim. Tbh, the HeatShield fits best but it's still kinda tricky near the mirror cameras. GL!
Adding my two cents cuz I've been thru this too... honestly, save your money and dont get the pricey ones. I had issues with the WeatherTech SunShade Full Vehicle Kit being way too stiff and hard to roll up in the R1S. Check out the Rivian Forums or the R1S subreddit—basically everyone recommends the HeatShield Custom Windshield Sunshade for the best budget value. It's like $50 and fits way tighter than universal ones. GL!
I totally agree with what was said about being careful around that mirror housing—those ADAS cameras are sooo expensive to fix if you bump them the wrong way! Honestly, I’m still pretty new to the R1S world, but I’ve been looking at this from a DIY vs pro service angle because I reallyyy hate the clutter of big shades in the back seat. Here is what I’ve found while researching options: * **Professional Ceramic Tint:** I actually went to a shop and had them do a clear ceramic film (like 3M Crystalline) on the front glass. It’s basically invisible but blocks a ton of heat. Pros: nothing to store or setup. Cons: way more expensive than a shade and there might be local laws about it?
* **DIY Custom Cut:** I’ve seen some people buy a roll of Reflectix Foil Insulation and cut it themselves using a cardboard template. It’s super lightweight so it doesnt sag or put pressure on the mirror. It looks a bit "budget" though lol. Does anyone know if the ceramic tint messes with the sensors at all? I havent had any issues yet but I'm still a little worried I might have made a mistake going that route instead of just buying a shade.
