I just picked up my Solterra and I’m loving it, but the stock charger is a bit slow. I’m looking for a reliable Level 2 home station—preferably something weatherproof for my driveway. Has anyone found a great NACS to CCS adapter or a specific brand that works best with Subaru’s software? What’s your must-have charging setup?
Oh man, congrats on the Solterra! Honestly, that stock charger is basically a trickle charge, so I get why you wanna upgrade. For your driveway, I've tried a few setups and here's what I've found works best with our software:
1. ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 WiFi Enabled EV Charger vs Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48 Amp: I went with the ChargePoint cuz it's super rugged and weatherproof for outdoor use. It's pricey (around $550-600), but the app integration is AMAZING. The Emporia is a fantastic budget pick tho, usually under $400, and it's literally just as reliable if you wanna save some cash.
2. For the adapter, I use the Lectron NACS to CCS Adapter 150A 500V DC and it's been solid.
I mean, basically you want something NEMA 4 rated for outdoors. Seriously, the ChargePoint is lowkey the gold standard for durability. GL with the new ride! 👍
Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year and ended up skipping those brands for the Wallbox Pulsar Plus 48 Amp Level 2 EV Charger. Honestly, the NEMA 4X rating is clutch for driveway use. Technically, its Power Sharing feature is great if ur ever planning to add a second EV. For the NACS swap, I've had zero software handshake issues using the Lectron Tesla to CCS1 Adapter 500V 300A. Everything just works, tbh!
Just wanted to say thanks for everyone chiming in. Super helpful discussion.
Ok so, for ur driveway, u really gotta focus on the build quality!! Seriously, since the Solterra internal charger caps at 6.6kW, you dont actually need a super pricey 48A station. A solid 32A or 40A unit is plenty and saves you cash on the circuit install too. I think looking into the Grizzl-E Classic is the way to go because its basically a heavy-duty metal box that can survive a blizzard. Idk but I think it’s one of the best values right now for outdoor use. For the NACS adapter, maybe look at the A2Z Typhoon? Someone told me it’s super solid for CCS cars. Technical specs-wise, just ensure it has a UL or ETL certification cuz safety is HUGE. It’s gonna be sooo much faster than that wall plug lol. gl!!
