Hey everyone! With winter right around the corner, I’m looking to install a remote starter on my Subaru Legacy. It’s a 2020 model with push-button start, and I’m honestly tired of freezing every morning while waiting for the engine to warm up. I’ve looked into the OEM Subaru kits, but the range seems a bit limited for the high price tag. I’m considering brands like Compustar or a plug-and-play kit from Start-X, but I’m worried about messing with the factory wiring. Does anyone have a specific brand they swear by for this car? I’m looking for something reliable with at least 1,000 feet of range. What’s the best bang-for-your-buck kit you've found?

Seconding the recommendation above! Compustar is definitely the gold standard, but if you're worried about the price tag and the installation hassle, I've gotta share my experience. I was in the same boat with my Subaru and ended up going with the Start-X Remote Starter Kit for Subaru Legacy 2020-2022 Push to Start.

Honestly, it was a total lifesaver. It’s a true plug-and-play setup that uses your factory key fob (just press lock three times), so no messing with the scary wiring! The only downside is the range is limited to your factory remote. To fix that, I added the Viper VSM550 SmartStart Pro module later on. Now I can start my car from my phone from literally anywhere. It’s a bit more of an investment upfront, but being able to warm up the car while I'm still finishing my coffee inside a building is so worth it. Hope this helps you stay warm this winter!

In my experience, you're right to be cautious about the factory wiring on a 2020 Legacy. Over the years, I've seen too many DIY jobs go south. Honestly, for the best bang-for-your-buck without compromising safety, I'd go with the Compustar CS4900-S-KIT 2-Way Remote Start System.

It gives you 3,000 feet of range—way better than the OEM kit. But seriously, unless you're a pro, have a shop handle the iDataLink Maestro ADS-ALCA Bypass Module integration. It's safer for your electronics, FWIW!

Honestly, I was so worried about the price of professional installs, but I finally bit the bullet on the Viper 4706V 2-Way Remote Start System. It’s been a total game-changer for my Legacy! It hits that 1-mile range easily, so I can start it from deep inside my office building. I found it for a great price online, and it really feels like the best bang-for-your-buck if you want reliability without the OEM markup. No complaints at all! ❄️
