Hey everyone! With summer heating up, the massive panoramic windshield on my Model X is turning the cabin into an oven. I love the view, but the heat soak is becoming unbearable for my kids in the back. I’m looking for a premium sunshade that actually fits the unique curvature of the X without sagging in the middle. I’ve seen some cheap mesh options online, but I’m worried about them looking tacky or falling down. Does anyone have experience with a high-quality brand that offers great thermal protection and a factory-like fit? I'd prefer something easy to install and remove for when the weather cools down. What’s the best option you’ve found that actually stays in place?

Honestly, my current setup works GREAT. It actually fits the curve without sagging.

- Stays cool
- Easy install

Worth it for the kids, just watch those clips tho!

This^ Also wanted to add some context from a market perspective cuz I've spent WAY too much time comparing these lol. Honestly, while the brands mentioned earlier are solid, you really gotta look at the frame tension and fabric weight. Most cheap options use thin wire that inevitably sags under high heat, but if ur looking for something truly premium, you might want to consider the VION Tesla Model X Glass Roof Sunshade. It's a bit pricier than some, but the fabric density is way higher than the Basenor Tesla Model X Roof Sunshade mentioned earlier, which helps with that factory look.

Another one I've researched heavily is the Otrifowd Model X Sunshade with Silver Reflective Covers. The cool thing here is the dual-layer approach—you get the mesh for aesthetics and a separate silver layer for those LITERALLY melting days. Basically, it offers more thermal flexibility. Just be careful with the clips during install... make sure they're seated deep so they don't pop. gl!!

Good to know!

TIL! Thanks for sharing

In my experience, the Tesmanian shade is the best value. It's super sturdy and honestly doesn't sag like the cheap ones. Basically a factory look for way less. Good luck!

I went through this last year... actually had a cheap clip fail and the whole thing fell on my kids while driving. Honestly, just get any of the options from EVANNEX because they use much sturdier mounting hardware that feels way safer.

Regarding what #11 said about "> basically, high-quality ceramic tint was the only..."

  • I totally get where you are coming from, but I would suggest being cautious with full-coverage tints combined with heavy shades. If you trap too much heat between a thick shade and the glass, you run a tiny risk of thermal stress cracks, especially in crazy desert heat. Summarizing what we have so far, it seems like the consensus is between mesh for visibility and reflective for max cooling. Here are a few technical things you might want to consider:
  • Frame rigidity is everything. If the wire is too thin, it is gonna sag by August.
  • Breathability matters. Mesh shades allow the AC to actually reach the glass surface to cool it down.
  • Mounting points. Make sure to check if the clips are plastic or metal. Metal clips hold better but you gotta be careful not to scratch the trim. I honestly think the Heatshield Custom Fit Sunshade for Tesla Model X is a solid alternative if you want maximum heat rejection. It is more of a traditional reflective material but fits like a glove. Just make sure to pop it out during the drive so you dont lose that gorgeous view. Good luck with the search, let me know if you need more specs!

> basically, high-quality ceramic tint was the only permanent, safe fix in my experience. Totally agree on the rattling part, it’s honestly so annoying... I’m still a bit of a newbie with my X but I've been trying to geek out on the specs of these things. One thing I’m worried about is the 'heat trap' effect that happens with the super thick shades. Like, if the heat is stuck between the glass and the shade, does that eventually damage the seal or the sensor housing glue?? I’ve heard some people say the extra weight from the heavy-duty frames can also start to gap the headliner trim if ur not careful. Basically, just a heads up to watch the weight of whatever you buy... u dont want it sagging AND pulling down your trim too. Does anyone know if the heat trapped there is actually a risk for the glass cracking? I'm just worried about the thermal expansion stuff.

Seconding the recommendation above! Honestly, ur gonna want to look at the Basenor Tesla Model X Roof Sunshade or the one from Topfit Tesla Model X Panoramic Windshield Sunshade. Both are solid cuz they use a mesh that's dense enough to block heat but still lets you see out a bit. Make sure to double check the clips though—some cheap ones can leave marks on the headliner if ur not careful. I would suggest checking the tension regularly so it doesn't sag over the kids' heads!! gl!

Respectfully, I'd consider another option because after years of owning an X, every shade I tried eventually sagged or rattled... basically, high-quality ceramic tint was the only permanent, safe fix in my experience.
