I’m getting ready for my first winter with my Tesla Model X and I’m a bit nervous about handling all that torque on icy roads. Since the Model X is quite heavy and has those specific staggered tire sizes, I want to make sure I pick a set that won't kill my range but still offers solid grip in deep snow. I’ve been looking at the Michelin Pilot Alpin and the Bridgestone Blizzaks, but I’m curious if anyone has found a better balance for EV efficiency. Does anyone have experience with how these affect the regenerative braking feel in the cold? Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year when I realized how fast the heavy Model X eats through premium rubber. They were about $250 each—much cheaper than the bigger brands—and honestly, the regen braking felt surprisingly natural. Honestly, I had issues with the range drop on those popular brands. For your situation, I'd suggest Continental WinterContact TS 860 S. They're engineered for heavy EVs and handle that torque much better without feeling mushy during regen braking. Unfortunately, winter tires always hit the battery a bit, but these are more efficient than most. Just be careful and get a professional alignment; the Model X weight eats rubber if it's even slightly off.
