Most reliable remote start kits for older Toyota models?

I’m looking to upgrade my early 2000s 4Runner and Camry with remote start for the winter. I’ve seen some plug-and-play options, but I'm worried about compatibility with older wiring and security chips. Are there specific brands known for being bulletproof on high-mileage Toyotas? I’d prefer something that won't drain the battery—any suggestions?

Check out the MPC Remote Start Kit for 2003-2009 Toyota 4Runner! I installed one on my old Camry and it’s basically bulletproof. Honestly, it's so easy and won't kill ur battery, gl!

Sooo, I've been wrenching on my own Toyotas for like 15 years now and honestly, the early 2000s models are actually pretty easy to work with once you get the hang of the bypass modules. Why it matters is cuz those older security chips can be finicky if you use cheap hardware, which leads to that battery drain you're worried about.

In my experience, Compustar CS4900-S All-in-One 2-Way Remote Start and Keyless Entry System is literally the gold standard for these older rigs. I put one in my 2004 4Runner three years ago and it hasn't missed a beat. If you want something super reliable for the Camry too, I highkey suggest the MPC Remote Start Kit for 2002-2006 Toyota Camry because it's semi-plug-and-play and wont mess with your factory wiring as much. Just make sure you get the iDatalink ADS-ALCA Multi-Platform Immobilizer Bypass too, cuz that makes the security chip handshake way smoother. Seriously, its worth the extra few bucks to avoid the headaches lol. gl!

Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year with my high-mileage Tundra. Honestly, my biggest worry was the security chip and battery drain, but it ended up being SO worth it. I basically focused on kits with a dedicated bypass module to keep the factory immobilizer happy. Before you pull the trigger, are you planning on doing the wiring yourself or taking it to a pro? Also, do you need a long-range remote or just basic fob access?
