Hey Camry fam!
So, I'm officially losing my mind trying to find the PERFECT phone holder for my 2022 Camry (SE trim, if that matters). I've been driving her for about 15,000 miles now, mostly commuting around the Bay Area, and honestly, balancing my phone on my leg or using that tiny little shelf near the shifter is NOT cutting it anymore. It's not just inconvenient, it's downright dangerous, especially with all the crazy drivers around here!
I've already tried a couple of those cheap vent-clip ones from Amazon, and they're complete garbage. They either wobble like crazy, block the air, or just plain fall off when I hit a bump. I even tried one of those magnetic ones that stick to the dashboard, but the adhesive melted in the California sun and left a nasty residue. Ugh!
I'm willing to spend a bit more for something that's actually sturdy and reliable. My budget is probably around $50-$75. I'm really hoping to find something that doesn't block my view of the road or look completely out of place in the Camry's interior. A cup holder mount could work, but I'm worried it'll get in the way of shifting, especially when I'm stuck in stop-and-go traffic (which is, let's face it, ALWAYS).
I'm leaning towards either a ProClip mount or maybe one of those that attach to the CD player slot (do those even work well?). But honestly, I'm open to any and all suggestions! What's the absolute BEST phone holder you've found for your 2022 Camry? Bonus points if you can share a link or a picture of it installed! I need something ASAP before I accidentally rear-end someone while trying to check Google Maps. Thanks in advance for your help, guys!
Building on the earlier suggestion, I am literally in the exact same boat with my SE... it is so frustrating. I've been hunting for something that doesn't vibrate like crazy when I'm on the freeway because that cheap stuff is a total safety hazard imo. I've been comparing a few high-end options but I'm still too nervous to pick one:
Came here to say the same thing lol. Great minds think alike I guess.
Hey there! I totally get your frustration. Finding a good phone holder can be a real pain, especially with all the options out there. I also have a 2022 Camry (though mine's an LE), and I went through a similar ordeal. I'm not sure if my solution is the *best*, but it's been working pretty well for me so far.
I ended up going with a Scosche MagicMount Pro Charge. I know, I know, it's another magnetic one, but hear me out! The key difference is *where* I mounted it. Instead of sticking it directly to the dash, which as you found out, is a recipe for melty-goo disasters, I used a ProClip USA custom mount. They make these brackets specifically for different car models. I ordered ProClip #855489 for my 2022 Camry; it clips onto the dashboard seam near the center air vents without any adhesive! (It was about $30, I think). Then, I stuck the Scosche magnetic mount onto *that* ProClip base.
The Scosche MagicMount Pro Charge itself was around $30 on Amazon. I wanted wireless charging, so I went for that version, but they have non-charging ones that are cheaper. What I like about this setup is that it's super stable, doesn't block the vents, and the ProClip mount is really solid. It took me maybe 10 minutes to install everything – just clip the ProClip on, then stick the magnetic mount to it. Just make sure to clean the ProClip surface before sticking the magnet on there.
I had issues with earlier magnetic mounts that had weak magnets, so I made sure this one was strong enough. It's been holding my iPhone 12 Pro Max (which is pretty hefty) without any problems, even on bumpy roads. It keeps the phone at a good viewing angle, and the wireless charging is a lifesaver on long drives. I tried a CD slot mount once on another car, and it was wobbly, so I wouldn't recommend them. Hope this helps! Let me know if you have any questions!
Hey! I feel your pain about the phone holder struggle in the Bay Area traffic! Those vent clips are definitely a no-go, I tried one too and it was a disaster. Instead of going for another mount, have you considered upgrading your head unit to one with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto?
I know, it sounds like a bigger project than just a phone holder, but hear me out. You can get a decent aftermarket head unit with wireless CarPlay/Android Auto for around $200-$400 (plus installation, which can be another $100-$200 depending on where you go). I actually upgraded mine in my old Honda Civic (not a Camry, but similar issue!) a couple years back. I bought a Pioneer unit from Crutchfield, they're super helpful with figuring out what's compatible and even include wiring harnesses and instructions. The total cost was around $450, including the unit and install kit.
It might seem like more upfront, but you get a much cleaner look, no more messing with flimsy holders, and the navigation/music integration is way better. Plus, most modern head units have improved sound quality over the factory ones.
Food for thought! I know it's a different approach, but it solved my phone distraction problem permanently. If you're curious, check out Crutchfield or even Best Buy. They usually have display models you can play around with. Let me know if you have questions about head unit stuff, I'm happy to share what I learned!
Hey Camry fam, I hear you on the phone holder hunt! Before dropping serious cash, have you considered a good ol' friction mount? I know, sounds basic, but hear me out. I've used a beanbag style one (Target, $20) in my older car for years. It sits on the dash and hasn't melted or left residue. Surprisingly stable! It's not as fancy as a ProClip, but for the price difference, worth a shot. Plus, no permanent install worries while you're still under warranty!
Hey! I totally get the phone holder frustration – been there! Have you considered looking beyond just 'phone holders' and thinking about a whole infotainment upgrade? I know it's more expensive upfront, but hear me out! I've been researching head units with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Some of the Kenwood or Pioneer models, like the Kenwood DMX7706S (around $400-$600 installed), completely replace your Camry's screen. You get a fantastic, built-in phone integration AND a bigger, better screen! I'm considering it myself because, honestly, all these phone holders seem like temporary fixes. Plus, professional install ensures no weird electrical issues! I'm still researching, but it seems like a safer, more long-term solution, don't you think? Let me know if you find any good deals!
Hey Camry fam! I totally get the phone holder struggle – it's a real pain! Everyone's already suggested some good options, but I haven't seen anyone mention a little DIY magic!
Okay, so hear me out: instead of buying a whole new mount, what about reinforcing one of those vent clips you already have? I know, I know, you said they're garbage, BUT! I was having the same problem with a wobbly vent clip in my old Civic (RIP), and a friend showed me this trick. Basically, you use some Sugru moldable glue (it's like $20 on Amazon for a pack) to really solidify the connection between the clip and the vent. It's kinda like Play-Doh for adults, lol. You mold it around the clip where it touches the vent, let it cure overnight, and BAM! It becomes super sturdy and doesn't wobble!
The key is to really wedge it in there and make sure it has a good grip. Plus, it's way cheaper than buying a ProClip or a fancy CD slot mount. It might not be the *prettiest* solution, but hey, if it works, it works! I've even seen some people use small pieces of rubber or foam to add extra grip and prevent the clip from scratching the vent. Just a thought! I'm still figuring out the best solution for my 2022 Camry too! I have a slight vibration that I'm trying to track down (think it's a wheel bearing, maybe?), so I'm all about saving money where I can!
Has anyone else tried any DIY phone holder hacks? I'm curious to hear what other budget-friendly solutions people have come up with! Good luck with your search, and let us know what you end up doing!
Hey! I totally get the phone holder frustration. After a few years with my 2020 Camry (same generation, so the dash is pretty similar), I've learned a few things the hard way. Unfortunately, I haven't found a *perfect* solution, but I can share what's worked best.
Skip the single-purpose phone holders, honestly. They all seem to break or become obsolete. Instead, I'd recommend a RAM Mount system with a dash base. It's a bit more of an investment upfront (around $60-$80 for the base and phone cradle), but it's rock solid, and you can swap out the phone cradle as needed if you upgrade your phone. I had issues with the adhesive mounts in the past, especially during the summer heat!
I've been using this system for about two years now, and it's held up great. Plus, the adjustability is awesome. It's not as sleek as some of the dedicated holders, but the reliability is worth it. I'm actually looking at upgrading my tires soon, so I know the feeling of wanting something reliable and performing well! I'm moving from all-seasons to performance tires. Let me know if you want more info!
