Which cargo organizer actually fits the ID.4 floor well without sliding around? I just got my 2023 Pro S last week and the trunk is a bit of a mess because stuff rolls everywhere when I take turns. Im torn between those official VW CarGo blocks that velcro to the floor or just getting a big collapsible bin like the Drive Auto one from Amazon. The VW blocks look cool but maybe they wont hold as much for my kids soccer gear this weekend. My budget is around 60-70 bucks and I need it fast. Does the carpet in our cars even work with generic velcro or do I have to buy the expensive brand name stuff?

In my experience, generic velcro sticks perfectly to the ID.4 carpet. Over the years I have tried many systems and here is my breakdown:

> Im torn between those official VW CarGo blocks that velcro to the floor or just getting a big collapsible bin Honestly, if youre dealing with kids soccer gear, skip the blocks. Theyre great for holding a single suitcase in place, but soccer balls and muddy cleats will just roll right over them or get grass all over your nice new carpet. A bin with higher walls is way more practical for keeping the dirt contained. Generic velcro works fine on the ID.4 carpet, like the others mentioned, but safety is a big thing people miss. Since the ID.4 has that instant torque, stuff shifts way faster than in a gas car. If you have to swerve, a heavy bag of gear becomes a projectile. I usually suggest the TrunkcratePro Expandable 3-Compartment Multi-Pocket Organizer because it has a super reinforced base and actual tie-down straps. Most people just rely on velcro, but using the straps to hook into the ID.4 factory floor loops gives you way more peace of mind. If you want to see how these bins fit the specific floor dimensions, check out the accessory threads on the VWIDTalk forum. There are some great user photos showing how much room is left on the sides. Usually, a large bin fits right in the center, leaving just enough space for a grocery bag on either side. Tbh, its probably the most useful thing you can buy for under 70 bucks... makes the trunk actually usable for a family.

To add to the point above: how much soccer gear are we talking about? Like, just a ball or a full team kit? You might want to consider the Fortem Car Trunk Organizer Heavy Duty Storage since its more cost-effective. Be careful with the height so it doesnt block the trunk light. I would suggest checking the base dimensions first to ensure it fits the recessed floor properly... no point overspending on brand names.

@Reply #1 - good point! Tbh the generic velcro really does grab that factory carpet like crazy. When I first brought my Pro S home, I was actually worried about stuff shifting and damaging the plastic side panels, or worse, becoming a safety hazard if I had to brake hard. I am kinda cautious about loose weight in the back so I looked for something a bit more substantial than a basic bag. I eventually went with the Rola 59001 M.O.V.E. Rigid Base Interior Organizer because the bottom is super grippy and it doesnt move an inch. The cool thing about the ID.4 is that two-level floor. If you put a heavy organizer on the top level, it can feel a bit top-heavy in turns. I found that this specific organizer fits perfectly even if you have the floor in the lower position to keep the weight down low. It has these sturdy dividers that actually stay upright, unlike the cheap collapsible ones that always seem to fold in on themselves when they are half empty. Quick tip: Use the side cubbies for small stuff like de-icer or rags, and keep the main floor clear for the big bins. It stops the clunk sound when you take sharp corners. TL;DR: Get a rigid-base organizer for better stability and keep it on the lower floor setting to stay safe and planted.

Re: "> Im torn between those official VW CarGo..."

  • I honestly think going with a high-walled bin is the way to go for things like sports gear. When I first brought my ID.4 home, I spent way too much on the official VW accessories because I wanted everything to match, but I quickly realized those blocks just arent deep enough for things like soccer balls or loose muddy cleats. Im way more satisfied with a simple collapsible setup. One thing to watch out for though... avoid those really cheap bins that dont have a rigid bottom. They just fold in on themselves when they arent totally full and look like a mess back there. Also, a big warning on the velcro: if the teeth are too long or sharp on some of those knock-off brands, they can actually start fraying the ID.4 floor carpet if you move the bin around a lot. Ive seen people basically pull up the carpet fibers until it looks like a fuzzy mess because they were too aggressive with the velcro. Just be gentle when you rip it up and youll be fine.
