Has anyone found a good phone mount for the ID.7?

I’ve been loving my ID.7 so far, but I’m really struggling to find a phone mount that actually works with the interior layout. Since the car has that massive 15-inch infotainment screen and a very minimalist dashboard design, the traditional suction cups or vent clips I used in my old car just don't seem to fit anywhere. I’ve tried a couple of generic magnetic mounts, but they either block the air vents or just won't stick to the soft-touch materials on the dash.

I’m looking for something that keeps my phone secure and visible without cluttering up that clean cockpit look. I’m particularly curious if anyone has found a mount that fits well behind the steering wheel area or perhaps a custom-fit bracket that clips onto the side of the center display. Wireless charging compatibility would be a huge plus, as I’d like to keep cables to a minimum. Has anyone found a specific brand or model that fits the ID.7 perfectly without damaging the interior trim or blocking the view of the screen?

Honestly, I feel your pain. I'm always looking for a budget-friendly fix because some of those custom mounts are SO expensive for what they are. I think I saw a guy on a German forum mention using a generic clip-on mount specifically for the edge of the 15-inch screen. Be careful though, cuz you don't wanna scratch the trim! I'd suggest checking AliExpress for a cheaper "screen edge" bracket—they're basically a fraction of the price of name brands. GL!

oh man, I totally feel u on this. the ID.7 interior is sooo clean but a nightmare for mounts! honestly, I've tried a bunch and most are trash. For your situation, I would suggest the Spigen OneTap MagSafe Car Mount for Tesla and ID.7 Display. It basically clips right onto the corner of that massive screen. It doesn't block the vents and keeps everything looking highkey factory. plus, if ur phone supports it, the magnetic hold is literally so secure. gl!

Honestly, I totally get where you're coming from with the ID.7 interior. I've been driving VW EVs for years now, starting with an early ID.4, and the transition to that massive 15-inch screen definitely changes the math for mounting gear. In my experience, the biggest technical hurdle isn't just the soft-touch dash materials—it's actually the heat dissipation from the screen and how the vents are angled.

So, after trying a bunch of setups in my current ID.7, I eventually settled on a custom-fit bracket that literally snaps onto the side frame of the infotainment display itself. It basically uses the structural rigidity of the screen housing rather than relying on adhesives or suction that always fail when the car gets hot in the sun. It's highkey the cleanest look because it keeps the phone right in your line of sight without blocking the actual digital cluster behind the wheel or the main UI. I'm super satisfied with this approach because it doesn't leave any permanent marks on that nice trim.

One thing I've learned over the years is that if you want wireless charging, you gotta look for one with a built-in cooling fan. These glass cockpits get WARM, and my phone used to overheat constantly before I switched to my current setup. Plus, it keeps the cables tucked neatly behind the screen so it doesn't ruin that minimalist vibe you're talking about. Seriously, look for the ones specifically designed for the ID.7/ID.Buzz screen frame... they're SO much better than generic mounts.

Honestly, I've been down this road and spent way too much money on generic mounts that just ended up flying across the cabin during a sharp turn... it’s actually SO frustrating and lowkey dangerous. If you're looking for something that wont ruin your dash or compromise safety, check out the forums over at VWIDTalk or even some of the German ID.7 owner groups on Facebook. There's a great resource at the ProClip USA site too—they usually have those custom-fit brackets that clip into the dash seams so nothing moves.

Seriously, just get any mount from a brand like ProClip or Brodit and you're basically set. I’ve had issues with the cheap sticky ones failing in the heat, which is a HUGE safety risk if it drops ur phone under the pedals while driving. It's kinda pricey but worth it for the peace of mind... ngl, the cheap stuff is usually just a waste of cash. gl!

Been living with my ID.7 for a few months now and the dash materials are honestly a nightmare for most mounts. The soft-touch surfaces have a lot of 'off-gassing' which basically kills standard adhesives after a week. If you want a technical, clean look: * Try the Peak Design Magnetic Car Mount (Adhesive). It’s super low profile.
* I found the best spot is on the steering column shroud, just to the side of the small driver display.
* Crucial tip: You *have* to prep the plastic with a 70% IPA wipe first or it’ll pop off once the cabin gets hot. It keeps the phone right in your line of sight like a secondary HUD. Doesn't clutter that massive 15-inch screen at all. Not 100% sure if the wireless charging version of that mount fits there without hitting the wiper stalk tho, but the standard one is solid.
