Which cargo mats fit the Volkswagen ID.4 most effectively?

Hey everyone! I just picked up my new Volkswagen ID.4 last week and I’m absolutely loving the car so far, but I’m already getting nervous about the trunk area. I do a lot of outdoor activities and often find myself hauling muddy hiking gear or the occasional bag of mulch, so I really need a high-quality cargo mat to protect the carpet.

I’ve been doing some research, but I’m a bit stuck on which one to pull the trigger on. I noticed that the ID.4 has that unique adjustable cargo floor, and I’m worried about how certain mats might interfere with moving it between the high and low positions. I’ve looked at the OEM MuddyBuddy mats from the dealership, but I’ve also seen people raving about TuxMat and WeatherTech online for their extra lip height to catch spills.

Does anyone have experience with how these different brands actually fit in the real world? Specifically, I’m looking for something that won’t slide around and maybe even offers protection for the back of the rear seats when they’re folded down. For those of you who have tried a few, which cargo mat offers the most precise, 'glove-like' fit for the ID.4 without being a hassle to clean?

Totally agree with the above! TuxMat is great, but if ur specifically looking for seat back protection, I'd check out the LASFIT Volkswagen ID.4 TPE Cargo Mat with Backrest Covers. Most liners ignore that area, but these use Velcro to stay secure when seats are folded. Technically, they're designed for the adjustable floor too, so moving it between levels isn't a huge hassle. Super easy to clean tho! gl!

Sooo I went through this last year. Basically, before I bought anything, I looked into the reliability of different materials. Honestly, it comes down to material safety and stability – you gotta be careful about those 'off-brand' options because some have a weird chemical smell or, worse, they dont grip the carpet well.

1. Safety first: If it slides during a sharp turn, it could actually be a safety hazard for your gear!!
2. Cost concerns: I really wanted to save some cash, so I skipped the premium brands mentioned earlier.
3. My experience: I ended up finding the Mixsuper TPE Cargo Mat for 2021-2024 Volkswagen ID.4 for about $75. It's basically a budget version of the high-end stuff.
4. Fitment: It's not quite as 'glove-like' as the TuxMat Volkswagen ID.4 Trunk Mat, but it handles the adjustable floor okay as long as you're careful with the edges.

Just keep in mind that the cheaper TPE can be a bit more slippery tho... but it works for my hiking gear! gl!

In my experience, I would suggest the TuxMat Volkswagen ID.4 Trunk Mat if you want that literal glove-like fit. Honestly, the side coverage is SO much better than the WeatherTech Cargo Liner for Volkswagen ID.4 or the Volkswagen ID.4 MuddyBuddy Trunk Liner. Idk, just keep in mind that most mats really only fit perfectly with the floor in the HIGH position... so yeah, it’s basically a trade-off for better protection!

Adjustable floors affect clearance! Check the ID.Talk fitment spreadsheet for data. My current setup was a steal and handles both levels perfectly. Honestly, the best resource for technical specs tho!

@Reply #4 - good point! Sliding is the absolute worst part of cheap mats. I learned that the hard way during my first month with the ID.4 when a loose bag of mulch shifted and dumped dirt everywhere because the mat literally just glided across the carpet. I eventually swapped to the 3D MAXpider KAGU Series Cargo Liner for Volkswagen ID.4 and it's been night and day. Basically, it uses this weird velcro-like backing that hooks into the carpet fibers so it wont move an inch.

  • Material: It’s a multi-layer TPE that feels more like a fabric/rubber hybrid, so it looks less truck-like inside.
  • Clearance: Since it isn't super thick like some heavy-duty rubber ones, it plays much nicer with the adjustable floor height.
  • Cleanup: Dirt just brushes off, tho you might need a hose for actual mud. It doesnt have those seat-back covers that were mentioned earlier, but if you want something that feels like part of the car rather than an accessory, it's a solid choice. Just make sure you get the one specific to your floor setup... I think they have versions for both levels.
