Hey everyone,

I'm on the hunt for a good dash cam for my 2017 Audi A5 Coupe. I've been putting it off for ages, but after nearly getting rear-ended twice in the last month (thanks, LA traffic!), I'm finally serious about getting one. I've looked at a few online, like the BlackVue and Thinkware models, but honestly, I'm overwhelmed by the options.

Ideally, I'd like something that records in at least 1440p, has good night vision (since I do a lot of driving at night), and maybe even has parking mode. My budget is around $300-$400. Has anyone had good experiences with a particular dash cam in their A5? Any recommendations or things to watch out for? I'm really hoping to get this sorted out this week, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hey there! LA traffic, I feel your pain! Instead of BlackVue/Thinkware, have you considered the Viofo A129 Pro Duo? I ran one in my old S4 (similar setup to your A5) and was super impressed.

It's got that 4K front recording you want, plus a 1080p rear cam – crucial for those LA tailgaters. Night vision's solid, and parking mode worked well, though you'll need a hardwire kit (around $20 on Amazon). I snagged the whole setup for about $250 a year ago. Worth checking out, I think it's a bit of a hidden gem compared to the more hyped brands. Let me know if you have any questions!

Ugh, LA traffic is the WORST! I totally get the dash cam need. While BlackVue and Thinkware are popular, and the Viofo mentioned is solid, let me throw a curveball: check out the Garmin Dash Cam 67W!

It's a bit of a different animal. The 'W' means it's got a super-wide 180-degree field of view – crucial for catching those sneaky lane changes. It records in 1440p, has Garmin's Clarity HDR for improved night vision (honestly, pretty amazing!), and while it doesn't have *built-in* parking mode, you can add a Garmin parking mode cable (around $30 on Amazon) to enable it. The 67W itself hovers around $250, leaving room in your budget for that cable!

I went with Garmin because I'm still under warranty and didn't want to mess with hardwiring a more complex system and potentially void anything. Plus, the magnetic mount is ridiculously convenient! I used it in my last car, and the transfer was super smooth. Let me know if you want more details on the install - happy to help!

Hey! Rear-end scares are the WORST! Everyone's suggesting these fancy dash cams, which are cool, but let's talk about value, right? Have you considered a Rexing V1P Pro? I know, it's not as 'premium' sounding as BlackVue, but honestly, the video quality is fantastic, it does 1080p (which is PLENTY for catching license plates!), and it's usually around $100-$150 on Amazon! Plus, it's super easy to install yourself; I wired mine into my old GTI's fuse box in like an hour. You'll save a TON on installation costs that way! Seriously, for the price, the Rexing is an amazing deal. You can always upgrade later if you feel you NEED 4K, but I bet you'll be perfectly happy with it. It also frees up some cash to pay for those LA gas prices too! Let me know if you want me to send over a link or any install tips!
