I just took delivery of my e-tron GT and I’m absolutely loving the performance, but with winter approaching, I’m getting a bit nervous about the stock summer tires. Since this car is quite heavy and has so much instant torque, I want to make sure I get a set that can handle icy patches and slush without sacrificing too much range or ride quality. I’ve been looking at the Michelin Pilot Alpin PA4 and the Bridgestone Blizzaks, but I'm curious if anyone has found a specific tire that works best with the e-tron's weight and regenerative braking. Are you guys sticking with the OEM recommended sets, or is there a better aftermarket option for deep snow? What are you all running this season?

Sooo I actually had a pretty scary moment last year when I first got my GT—hit a patch of black ice on the stock summers and basically slid right through a stop sign. It was terrifying cuz this car is so heavy!! For your situation, I would suggest being extra cautious with the instant torque. I decided to go with a budget-friendly setup cuz the OEM sets are insanely priced... Honestly, I ended up getting the Vredestein Wintrac Pro 245/45R20 and they've been awesome for the price, usually around $250-300 per tire. They handle the weight way better than I expected and the range hit isnt too bad tbh. I mean, you gotta be careful with the regenerative braking on slushy corners though—it can get a bit twitchy if youre not smooth. I’d definitely talk to a pro about the load rating too, but yeah, definitely dont risk it on the stock tires. gl!

Coming back to this, honestly, you gotta be sooo careful with the weight of the GT on ice. My current setup from a big name brand is okay, but I've definitely felt that heavy backend slide if I'm too aggressive with the regen braking.

- Look for tires with a high load rating (XL)
- Stick to brands known for thick sidewalls

Better safe than sorry... seriously, the weight is no joke!! gl!

Story time: I went through this last year when I first picked up my GT. Basically, I spent weeks comparing market data on different brands cuz I was worried about that heavy curb weight eating through my tread. Honestly, Michelin is usually the gold standard for high-end EVs like ours, though Pirelli is another solid choice if ur looking for a more performance-oriented feel. I actually ended up going with any winter-rated tire from Bridgestone I could find in stock at the time, and it’s been a total tank in the slush. Just stick with a reputable premium brand and you'll be fine lol.

Quick question - before I really dive into advice, are you dealing mostly with plowed city streets or are you actually heading into the mountains where the snow gets deep?

I mean, honestly, I've been driving high-performance EVs for a minute and the weight of the GT is no joke when it comes to stopping distance. I had a pretty rough time last year with my current setup; unfortunately, it didnt handle the "slush-to-ice" transition as well as I expected. I literally felt the ABS kicking in way too early on what shouldve been a simple stop, which was super frustrating. It was pretty disappointing cuz I spent a lot of money thinking the car would be rock solid, but it ended up feeling a bit floaty during heavy braking.

From a safety-first perspective, here is what I learned the hard way:
* Check the load index specifically—don't just look at the tire size, cuz these heavy batteries need that extra sidewall strength.
* Watch your regen settings; high regen on black ice is basically a recipe for a slide if the rear wheels lock up even for a millisecond.
* Efficiency is great, but prioritize the stopping distance over range every single time.

But yeah, let me know your typical route tho. Safety is highkey the priority here... nothing feels worse than feeling that 5,000lb car lose grip! I'm still looking for a better solution for this season myself. gl!
