So I finally got my i4 after waiting like eight months and while the car is amazing to drive the interior storage situation is actually kind of a nightmare. I came from an old SUV so maybe I am just spoiled but everything feels so cramped and there is literally nowhere to put my stuff without it sliding all over the place. The center console is basically a deep dark pit where my keys and sunglasses go to die and honestly I am so sick of digging around in there while I am trying to drive.
Also I live in the PNW so it rains like 90% of the time and my dog (who is a 70lb golden retriever) has already managed to get mud on the back seats because the luxury floor mats the dealer gave me are basically just pieces of carpet. They do absolutely nothing to stop the mess. I went to the dealership to see what they had for utility stuff and the prices are just insulting... like $250 for a plastic tray? Come on. I already spent way too much on the car itself and I really dont want to keep throwing money at the BMW logo if there are better third-party options that actually fit the car properly.
I am looking for stuff that makes this car actually livable for daily errands and weekend trips. I have a budget of maybe a few hundred bucks to get this sorted before winter really hits. Specifically looking for:
I really want to love this car but right now the lack of organization is just stressing me out every time I get in it. Does anyone have links to stuff they actually use? I dont mind spending a bit for quality but I am done with the official BMW accessories that dont even work that well...
Unfortunately, factory mats dont have the sidewall height for PNW rain. I had issues with seepage. Consider TuxMat BMW i4 Custom Floor Mats for laser-measured fit and superior liquid containment specs.
Just catching up on this thread and ngl, the storage in these cars is definitely a bit of a shock coming from an SUV. Before you buy anything for the back, are you planning on keeping the golden retriever in the trunk or is he strictly a backseat passenger? If he is in the trunk, you gotta be careful about the side panels too, not just the floor because those claws can do some serious damage to the felt. For that screen, honestly, fingerprints are the least of your worries... one accidental ring scratch and that panel is ruined. I would check out the Spigen Glas.tR Slim Screen Protector for BMW i4 Curved Display. It is tempered glass, so it actually feels like the original screen and is way easier to wipe down. It basically makes the display much more durable and the matte finish helps a ton with glare too. Regarding the sliding groceries, skip the nets. They are a hassle to clip in and out every time. I use the WeatherTech CargoTech Containment System. It is basically four plastic L-shaped blocks with grippy bottoms that stick to the carpet. Super reliable for holding bags in place even when you are driving a bit more spiritedly in sport mode. For the pit of a console, the KIMU Center Console Organizer Tray for BMW i4 is a decent, low-cost option. It gives you a top layer for your wallet and keys so they are actually reachable. It is a solid fix for under thirty bucks and fits perfectly without any annoying rattling.
Jumping in here because man, I feel your pain on that center console. I spent the first month basically fishing for my badges and house keys every time I got home. I actually tried a couple of those generic plastic insert trays from a big online retailer and honestly, the fitment was hit or miss. One was so tight I thought I was gonna snap the console lid, and the other rattled every time I hit a bump... which is super annoying in a car that is otherwise dead silent. My experience with the cargo area was pretty much the same too. I tried those little velcro blocks that are supposed to stick to the carpet to hold bags in place, but the i4 trunk material is weirdly slick? My groceries just ended up dragging the dividers across the floor anyway whenever I took a corner. It was a total waste of money tbh. A few things I learned the hard way during my search for a livable setup:
