What are the most essential accessories I need to get for my new BMW i4 before I mess something up? I just took delivery of a 2024 eDrive40 and I am seriously obsessed with it but I have no idea what I am doing since this is my first EV and honestly my first fancy car. I am so excited to finally have it but now I am scrolling through all these forums and realizing there is a whole world of stuff I might need to buy and I dont even know where to start. Like do I need a special screen protector for that massive curved screen? It looks so fragile and I have kids so I am terrified of fingerprints or scratches. I live in Chicago and winter is coming up fast so I am thinking about those heavy duty floor mats but I dont know if the ones from BMW are worth the crazy price or if there is a better brand people use. My budget is like $400 or $500 right now because the down payment wiped me out lol but I want to make sure the car stays nice. Are there specific charging cables I should keep in the trunk or some kind of organizer so my groceries dont slide around everywhere in the back? Sorry if these are really basic questions I just feel totally out of my element here...

In my experience, that hatch makes things slide around way more than a sedan. Are you charging at home with a 240v outlet or just using a standard plug for now? Over the years I've found a Drive Auto Car Trunk Organizer is essential for groceries. Keeps things stable. Also, honestly, just keep Chemical Guys InnerClean Interior Detailer and a microfiber in the glovebox... its way cheaper than a protector and handles fingerprints fine.

Regarding the charging cables, living in Chicago means you'll definitely want a reliable setup for the winter months when efficiency drops. I have been very satisfied with my current kit and it has worked well for over a year now. Here is a quick breakdown of what I keep in my trunk:

  • BMW Flexible Fast Charger 120V/240V Dual Voltage: This likely came with your car. It is methodical and handles both standard and high-voltage outlets perfectly. No complaints regarding the build quality.
  • Lectron Tesla to J1772 Charging Adapter 48 Amp 250V AC: This is a priority purchase. It lets you use Tesla Destination chargers at hotels. It is built like a tank and very reliable.
  • Lectron NEMA 14-50 Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp: If you prefer a dedicated unit for the trunk so you don't have to unplug your home setup, this works well. It is straightforward and durable. Getting that Tesla adapter will solve most of your range anxiety during those cold Chicago winters.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.

First thing you need is a screen protector for that glass. The Spigen Tempered Glass Screen Protector for BMW i4 is the go-to for fingerprints. Since youre in Chicago, skip the BMW mats and get TuxMat Custom Floor Mats for BMW i4 instead. They have better coverage for winter slush.

  • Spigen protector for the curved display
  • TuxMat for floor protection
  • Basic trunk net for groceries These will keep the car looking new.
