I just picked up a G20 and want to modernize the cabin a bit. I’m looking for high-quality wireless chargers, dash cams that integrate cleanly, or maybe an MMI Prime upgrade for better CarPlay. Any must-have gadgets that don't ruin the clean interior aesthetic? What are your top recommendations for 3 Series tech?

In my experience, keeping the G20 cabin clean is key cuz the interior design is already so sharp. Honestly, I've tried many setups over the years and the absolute best dash cam for that factory look is the Fitcamx Dash Cam for BMW 3 Series G20. It literally replaces the plastic shell behind your rearview mirror so it looks totally OEM!! No messy wires hanging around which is a huge win.

For the tech side, if your CarPlay feels laggy or you just want that full-screen vibe, the BimmerTech MMI Prime Retrofit is definitely the way to go. It's a bit of an investment but seriously worth it for the better interface. Also, for charging, skip the cheap pads and look at the SIGHILL Wireless Car Charger for BMW 3 Series G20. It fits right into the center console tray like it was meant to be there from the factory. Plus, it actually charges pretty fast for a wireless pad! Are you planning on doing the install yourself or taking it to a shop? gl with the upgrades!!

For your situation, I've spent years messing with BMW interiors and honestly, you gotta be careful not to overspend on stuff that'll be outdated in two years. Since you mentioned the BMW MMI Prime Retrofit, i'd say first check if your G20 is pre-2020. If you have the newer iDrive 7, you probably already have wireless CarPlay and just need to code it in with BimmerCode App and an OBDLink CX Bluetooth OBD2 Adapter. It's way cheaper than a hardware swap and basically a must-have for any 3 Series owner on a budget.

Regarding the wireless charger... the factory one is kinda trash because it overheats phones like crazy. Instead of a bulky mount, I'd look at the Carqiwireless BMW 3 Series Wireless Charger Panel. It fits right into the center console tray so it looks totally stock but actually works. Also, since dash cams were mentioned, if you want to save some cash over the high-end stuff, I've had a solid experience with the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2. It's tiny enough to hide behind the mirror so it doesn't ruin that clean G20 aesthetic you're after. Just make sure to get the Garmin Constant Power Cable if you want parking mode without tapping into the fuse box. It's all about getting that tech upgrade without making the cabin look like a Best Buy aisle lol. Good luck with the new ride tho, the G20 is a beast!! Cheers.

Curious about one thing: does ur G20 have the iDrive 7 setup with the Live Cockpit Professional or the older screens? If u have the newer head unit, definitely check out BlackVue DR970X-2CH Plus 4K Dash Cam or Vantrue N4 Pro 3-Channel 4K Dash Cam over the basic ones cuz the bitrates are wayyy better for catching plates, right? Lemme know ur screen setup!

^ This. Also, I'm gonna have to disagree a bit with the idea of doing heavy hardware retrofits or deep coding right away. Honestly, I've been super satisfied just keeping the car as stock as possible and focusing on simple stuff that doesnt mess with the electrical system. I've seen way too many people run into weird gremlins or have their head units act up after installing those third-party retrofit boxes. It's just a major headache if things go sideways and you're far from home... One thing to be really careful about is those cheap generic chargers or adapters that stay powered on even when the car is off. The G20 is super sensitive to battery drain and you'll start getting those annoying increased battery discharge warnings if you aren't careful. Personally, I think keeping the system stable and reliable is worth more than having a few extra tech bells and whistles that might fail in a year. Just my two cents tho.
