I just picked up a new X7 xDrive40i and need to protect the trunk area. I’m looking for a cargo liner that offers a perfect, edge-to-edge fit, especially around the power-folding third-row seats. Does anyone have experience with WeatherTech versus the OEM BMW mats? I'm worried about the material being too slippery for groceries. Which brand actually fits the contours best?
+1 to what was said earlier. Honestly, I had such a bad experience with the WeatherTech Cargo Liner for BMW X7 because it was literally like a skating rink for my stuff. Unfortunately, things kept sliding into the seat gaps, which was sooo annoying.
I switched to the BMW OEM G07 X7 All-Weather Cargo Mat and it's basically night and day:
* Technical fit: It actually hugs the edges better around the power-folding 3rd row.
* Grip: The texture is way tackier, so groceries actually stay put.
* Value: I paid like $160 at the dealer, which isn't much more than the aftermarket stuff.
But yeah, the OEM one is the way to go if youre worried about things moving around. gl!
sooo i saw this earlier and just wanted to jump in with a safety-first perspective because i'm pretty new to the X7 world too and was super worried about stuff flying around in the back. honestly if you're worried about groceries sliding, you gotta be careful with the harder plastics. make sure to check out the 3D MAXpider KAGU Series Cargo Liner for BMW X7... it's basically a game changer because it has this unique textured surface that isn't slippery like the WeatherTech ones people mentioned. i've heard the grip is actually better than the OEM stuff too. plus the fitment is SUPER precise around those power-folding third-row seats so you wont get gunk in the tracks. i mean, i guess it might be a bit more expensive than some random Amazon brands, but for the safety of your cargo it's worth it imo. just make sure you get the right one for the 40i specifically!! good luck!
Oh man, congrats on the new X7! I've honestly tried both the OEM and WeatherTech for my xDrive40i and here's my take. The OEM ones are sooo much better if you're worried about things sliding around; they have this grippy texture that's basically perfect for groceries. WeatherTech fits great too, but it's way more plasticky and slick imo. Just go with the BMW brand liners... they reallyyy nail the contours around the third row. Peace!
Late to the party but I wanted to chime in since I just went through this whole process with my own X7. Honestly, for your situation, I would suggest looking into some of the lesser-known brands you find on big marketplaces like Amazon. I've been a car guy for years, and I've learned that you dont always gotta pay the "BMW tax" to get a decent fit, you know?
Some of those generic TPE mats are actually reallyyy good because they use the same 3D scanning tech as the big brands but cost way less. Be careful though, cuz some of the cheaper ones are super slippery. You basically want something that feels more like rubber than hard plastic. If you're worried about groceries flying around, I'd suggest just getting any rubber-textured mat from a reputable seller with high ratings.
One thing to keep in mind with the X7 is that 3rd row. It's kinda tricky with the power folding. I mean, I'm still figuring out the best way to keep everything lined up when the seats go up and down, but a thinner, more flexible material usually works better for that than the heavy-duty stiff ones. Plus, if you go with a budget brand, it's not a huge loss if you decide to swap it out later. I'd definitely stay away from the hard plastic liners if you want that grip. Just make sure to check the reviews to see if people mention the 3rd-row clearance... it can be tight. Good luck with the new ride!!
