I just picked up a 2023 Silverado, and while I love the truck, my kids are having a tough time climbing into the back. I’m looking for some solid running boards or side steps that offer a good balance of durability and style. I’m torn between the classic 6-inch oval nerf bars and those sleek power-retractible ones, though I’m worried about how the electric ones hold up in muddy conditions. Does anyone have experience with specific brands like Westin or AMP Research on their Chevy? I’m hoping to stay under $700 if possible. Which setup do you think offers the best grip and longevity for a daily driver?

Honestly, for your budget, just stick with the Westin 27-6640 Brushed Aluminum Step Board or something similar because they're basically bulletproof and way cheaper than power steps. I've had mine for years and they're solid.

Congrats on the new 2023 Silverado! Ngl, I've been through a few trucks over the years and I totally get the struggle with the kids climbing in. For your budget, I would suggest skipping the power steps. In my experience, even the high-end AMP Research PowerStep Electric Running Boards can get a bit glitchy if you're dealing with lots of mud and road salt—plus they're way over $700.
Here's what I recommend based on what I've run:
* **Westin 6-inch OE Xtreme Oval Nerf Bars**: These are basically bulletproof. They have a massive stepping area which is HUGE for kids' safety.
* **Tyger Auto TG-RS2C40018 Riser Running Boards**: If you wanna save some cash, these are super solid and have a really aggressive grip so nobody slips when it's raining.
Honestly, the Westin bars are the way to go. They've got that classic look you mentioned and they'll actually last the life of the truck without any motors burning out. Hope that helps! 👍

Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year and honesty, be careful with those power-retractable ones if you're in a muddy area. I had a buddy whose motors burned out after one rough winter because the gunk just seized everything up. It's a HUGE pain to fix. I basically learned that for a daily driver, the simple fixed steel steps are way more reliable and way cheaper too lol.

TL;DR from this thread: ditch the electrics for mud. Honestly, I’d suggest n-FAB Podium LG Stainless Steel Drop Steps because they provide the SAFEST technical footing for kids while staying way under $700!
