What are the most actually useful accessories you guys use for your PT Cruisers? I just got an 05 GT model for my daily commute in Seattle and its great but the interior feels a bit empty.

I looked into those Mopar shelf systems and the retro wood dash kits but I'm torn. Some people say the shelf is awesome for groceries but others say it blocks the seats from folding flat which I need to do for my gear on weekends. I've got maybe 200 bucks to spend right now. Is there anything that actually makes the car more livable day to day or is it all just for looks? Kinda need stuff that wont break after a month...

Just saw this. Honestly, I would skip the wood dash kits and that Mopar shelf. The wood stickers usually peel or fade after a summer, and the shelf is just way too clunky if you are constantly hauling gear. It takes up a lot of room and makes folding the seats a total chore. I prefer stuff that actually keeps the car safe and clean, especially with the rain in Seattle.

  • WeatherTech FloorLiner Custom Fit PT Cruiser: These are basically mandatory for a daily commute in the PNW. Stock carpets hold moisture and start to smell like mildew after a few months of wet shoes. These liners fit perfectly and wont slide around under your pedals, which is a safety concern for me.
  • iOttie Easy One Touch 5 Dashboard Mount: Way safer than looking down at your lap for GPS. It stays put even on the PT dash which has that weird textured plastic. Its a decent option that doesnt rattle every time you hit a pothole.
  • Mopar PT Cruiser Envelope Style Cargo Net: This is a much better alternative to the hard shelf. It keeps your groceries or small gear from sliding around during the commute, but you can unclip it in five seconds when you need to fold the seats flat for the weekend. Its way more practical than a heavy plastic shelf that gets in the way. Focusing on the basics might seem boring but its more reliable in the long run imo.

Honestly, the biggest letdown with the 05 GT is how dark and dingy it gets inside during those gray Seattle winters. Unfortunately, the stock incandescent bulbs in the dome and map lights are pretty much useless for finding anything you drop on the floor. I tried some cheap generic LED kits from a random site a while back and it was a total waste of money... half the diodes flickered out within a month because the voltage regulation was basically non-existent. If you actually want to make the cabin livable for gear hauling without ruining the fold-flat seats, you need to focus on protection and visibility. I had issues with mud and coffee ruining my carpet because the factory mats are basically just thin pieces of felt that dont stop anything.

Like someone mentioned, you really gotta be careful with what you add. In my experience, safety is everything. Over the years, Ive tried many cheap gadgets that just die. Honestly, just get any portable jump starter from NOCO so you dont get stranded. I remember getting stuck in an Oregon storm once... had to stop for pie while waiting it out. Best pie ever. Anyway, go with a reliable brand.
