Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger on a new-to-me Ram 1500 last week, and I’m absolutely loving the ride so far. However, I realized pretty quickly that the factory bed is currently bare metal and looking a little vulnerable. I’m planning on using this truck for a mix of things—hauling lumber for some upcoming home renovation projects, loading up mountain bikes, and occasionally throwing in some heavy camping gear and coolers for weekend trips.

I really want to keep the truck looking good for the long haul and prevent any premature rusting or ugly dings, but I’m a bit torn on which direction to go for a bed liner. I’ve seen some guys swear by the classic drop-in plastic liners because they’re incredibly tough against heavy impact, but I’ve also heard a few horror stories about them vibrating and scratching the paint underneath, which eventually leads to moisture getting trapped and causing rust issues.

On the other hand, the spray-on options like Line-X or Rhino Liner seem to be the gold standard for most owners, but they’re definitely a bit pricier and obviously a permanent modification. I also recently came across the BedRug, which looks interesting because it's softer on the knees and keeps things from sliding around, but I’m worried about how it holds up if it gets wet or if I end up hauling something messy like mulch or gravel.

For context, I have the 5'7" bed, and I’m trying to keep my budget somewhere around the $500 to $700 range if possible. I’m also curious if any specific liners play better with the RAMBox cargo system or if they interfere with the factory LED bed lighting and tie-down points.

Does anyone have a specific brand or type they’ve had a great experience with on their Ram? I'm mainly looking for something that offers a good balance of durability and grip so my gear isn't sliding all over the place. What do you guys think is the best bed liner for a Ram 1500 in terms of overall value and protection?

Respectfully, I'd consider another option. sooo i'm still kinda new but i think the DualLiner Truck Bed Liner for 2019-2024 Ram 1500 5'7" Bed is better for safety!! Unlike spray-ons (permanent) or rugs (moisture traps), this uses hard sidewalls and a 3/8-inch Zero-Skid rubber mat. It's AMAZING because gear literally CANNOT slide. Plus, it fits RAMBoxes and LED lights perfectly. Isnt that safer for hauling stuff?? gl! 👍

Respectfully, I've had a different experience with those. I’ve seen bad rust under BedRugs, so ur safer with Line-X Premium Spray-On Bedliner. It won't trap moisture, which is basically a ticking time bomb tbh.

Sooo, congrats on the new truck! Honestly, for that $500-$700 budget, I would suggest checking out the BedRug Classic Bed Liner BRT19CCK for 2019-2024 Ram 1500 5'7" Bed. I've had one for a while and it's basically a game changer for camping and bikes because stuff doesn't slide around. I was worried about mulch too, but it’s actually closed-cell polypropylene, so it won’t rot or hold water like carpet. You can literally just pressure wash it out!

It plays nice with the factory LED lights and tie-downs too. If you’re really worried about heavy impact from lumber, maybe consider the Dee Zee DZ86917 Heavy Duty Bed Mat 3/8" Thick instead, but the BedRug is way better for your knees. Just make sure to prep the surface well so the velcro stays put. I think it’s the best value for your specific needs tbh. gl!

Seconding the recommendation above! BedRug is great for the knees, but honestly, I've seen some nasty rust issues when moisture gets trapped... it's a bit disappointing. Before you pull the trigger, are you planning on adding a tonneau cover? Also, how often will you actually be hauling mulch or gravel?? Those messy loads might be a total dealbreaker for a soft liner!!
