What is the best sunshade for the G80 windshield?

I’m looking for a high-quality sunshade that actually fits the G80's massive windshield properly. My current universal one leaves huge gaps around the rearview mirror and keeps falling down. Does anyone have experience with the OEM version versus a custom-fit Covercraft or WeatherTech? I need something sturdy that handles high heat well. What’s your go-to for a perfect, edge-to-edge fit?

Seconding the recommendation above for those custom-fit options! Honestly, I’ve tried many over the years and the cheaper ones just don't cut it.

If you want a solid budget-friendly alternative that still fits the G80 like a glove, I've had great luck with AutoTech Zone Custom Fit Windshield Sunshade for Genesis G80. It’s sturdy, way cheaper than OEM, and actually stays in place. IMO, it's the best bang for your buck without that annoying sag. Good luck!

For your situation, I’d suggest looking at a few specific technical trade-offs because, unfortunately, not all "custom" fits are created equal. I’ve had issues with the generic stuff too—it’s honestly so frustrating when they sag and bake your dash anyway.

Here’s how the heavy hitters compare for the G80:

* Covercraft Custom UVS100 Sunscreen: This is the gold standard for rigidity. It uses a triple-laminate construction that doesn't fold or go limp in 100-degree heat. The fit around the sensor cluster is usually tight, but it’s bulky to store.
* WeatherTech Custom Fit SunShade: This one is dual-purpose (silver for summer, black for winter). It’s more flexible than the Covercraft, but in my experience, the edges can sometimes curl over time if you aren't careful.
* BMW OEM Front Windshield Sunshade: Usually made by UV Heat Shield, it’s reliable but often pricier just for the logo.

Personally, I'd go with the Covercraft UVS100 Custom Sunscreen. It’s sturdy enough that you don't even need the visors to hold it up half the time... anyway, back to your point, it definitely handles high heat the best without warping. Good luck!

Honestly, I've been through this exact headache with my last three cars. I used to buy those cheap, floppy circular shades from the local auto shop, but they always ended up sagging or leaving massive gaps that let the heat soak right into the dash. When I picked up the G80, I decided to stop messing around and get something that actually fits the tech-heavy windshield.

In my experience, you really can't beat the Covercraft UVS100 Custom Sunscreen. I've had mine for over two years now, and the fitment is basically edge-to-edge. It's a solid, triple-laminated foam core board, so it doesn't do that annoying 'wilting' thing when it gets super hot outside. It stays rigid and sits perfectly flush against the glass.

One thing to note—the G80 has a pretty chunky sensor housing behind the rearview mirror. The Covercraft UVS100 has a precise cutout that hugs that area without leaving those huge light leaks you're seeing now. Tbh, while the WeatherTech Roll Up SunShade is a decent option, I find the folding style of the Covercraft much easier to handle in a luxury cabin; it just feels more premium and is easier to stow away. It's definitely an investment compared to a $15 universal shade, but it keeps the interior noticeably cooler and protects that expensive leather dash. If you want a perfect fit, that's the way to go. Hope this helps!

I’ve spent so much time testing different setups for my G80! One huge caution I have is to stay away from those cheap, generic one size fits all shades you find at big box stores. They are honestly a nightmare for our cars. The material is usually way too thin and can actually allow heat to build up so much that it risks damaging the expensive sensor array behind the rearview mirror! I’ve seen people deal with recalibration issues because their dash got way too hot under a flimsy shade. You really need to compare the rigid folding panels against the roll-up types. The roll-ups are okay, but they tend to lose their shape over time and leave gaps. I love the solid folding boards because they offer such fantastic heat rejection! Just make sure whatever you get has a soft, sewn edge. Some of those harder custom boards have sharp edges that will absolutely shred your leather dash or scuff the A-pillars if you aren't being super careful. It’s all about protecting that beautiful interior!
