I recently picked up a Genesis GV70 and I'm absolutely loving the ride, but I need to figure out a solid roof rack solution for my mountain bikes. Since the GV70 has those sleek flush side rails, I'm a bit worried about finding crossbars that won't scratch the finish or create too much wind noise at highway speeds. I’ve been looking at the Thule WingBar Edge and the Yakima JetStream, but I’m also curious if the official Genesis OEM bars are actually better for the fit. Does anyone have experience with how these systems affect the panoramic sunroof clearance? I’d love to hear which setup you recommend for a clean look without sacrificing utility!
Story time: I went through this exact same technical headache with my GV70 last year. I spent weeks obsessing over the drag coefficients and T-track specs cuz I didn't want my bikes whistling at 80mph. I looked at the Thule WingBar Edge which is basically the gold standard for noise reduction, but honestly, that $600+ price tag is wild. Then I compared it to the Yakima JetStream—better weight capacity (165 lbs) but it felt slightly noisier in my testing. I actually found that the Turtle Air1 Roof Rack Cross Bars are a low-key budget win. They're like $180-$220 compared to the big names. In my experience, the clearance for the pano roof was tight—measured about 50mm—but it cleared. The OEM bars mentioned earlier are definitely the safest bet for fitment, but if ur looking to save $300 while keeping that flush look, the Turtle bars handled the load just as well. TL;DR: Compared Thule WingBar Edge (Quiet/Pricey) vs Yakima JetStream (Strong/Loud) vs Turtle Air1 Roof Rack Cross Bars. The Turtle bars are the best budget choice for a clean look without breaking the bank. Cheers!
Yo! I went through this last year right after I got my GV70. Tbh I was super paranoid about the safety aspect of mounting stuff over that massive glass roof!! I'm still kinda new to the technical side of racks but I spent hours reading about dynamic weight loads and T-track specs cuz I didn't want anything shifting at highway speeds. Basically, I looked at the ones already mentioned but I ended up going with the Rhino-Rack Vortex StealthBar Black 2 Bar Roof Rack because the safety ratings for flush rails seemed really reliable. I was actually really worried about scratching the finish, so I made sure the rubber gaskets were totally clean before I clamped them down. One thing I learned is that the sunroof clearance is super tight—it's actually lowkey terrifying to watch it open the first time—but it works! I'm really satisfied with how secure it feels and the wind noise is basically non-existent. Just make sure you use a real torque wrench for the install... dont just guess it! gl!
i'd suggest the Genesis GV70 OEM Roof Rack Cross Bars if ur worried about the fit, they're actually cheaper than Thule and won't block the sunroof as much... definitely be careful tho.
Seconded!
