Hey everyone! I finally took delivery of my new GMC Canyon AT4X, and I am absolutely loving the performance and that aggressive stance. However, now that it’s in my driveway, I’ve realized the truck bed is a bit of a blank canvas. I’m looking to turn it into a more functional space for both overlanding trips and daily chores without cluttering things up too much.

Since the AT4X comes with that cool MultiStow tailgate and the built-in 120V outlet, I want to make sure whatever I add doesn't block those features or the LED bed lighting. I’ve been looking into high-quality tonneau covers—maybe a hard-folding one for security—but I’m also considering a bed rack if I decide to go with a rooftop tent later on. I’m also curious if anyone has found a bed mat or liner that fits perfectly around the AT4X's specific dimensions, as I want to protect the finish while hauling recovery gear.

I really want to get the setup right the first time rather than buying stuff I’ll regret later. For those of you who have had your Canyon for a while, what are the absolute 'must-have' bed accessories you’d recommend to maximize utility and style? Specifically, are there any storage systems or dividers that work well with the short bed length?

Respectfully, I'd consider another option. Skip pricey hard covers; grab a Tyger Auto T1 Soft Roll Up Truck Bed Tonneau Cover for $190—it wont block ur lights and saves cash for gear!

For your situation, grab the Dee Zee Heavy Duty Bed Mat DZ87005 for $120. Tbh, cheap liners compromise load stability; I had issues with slipping. Works better tho!! Hope it helps.

Ok so I have been obsessing over the exact specs of the bed since I got my AT4X and honestly you can save so much money by going the DIY route for the interior organization. If you measure the horizontal indentations in the bed liner they are actually spaced perfectly for standard lumber which is basically a built-in feature that GMC doesnt advertise much. I ended up getting a single 2x6 board and cutting it to about fifty-four inches which creates a perfect partition for groceries or recovery gear so it doesnt slide around and block your 120V outlet. I am still a beginner at truck mods so I have been digging through a lot of data on the GMC technical resource sites to make sure I dont overload the bed walls. For a budget friendly way to organize things without a permanent rack I would check out:

  • YouTube for DIY truck bed platform builds using 2x6 boards
  • The official GMC Accessories digital catalog just to get the fitment measurements then find cheaper generic versions
  • Reese Explore Adjustable Cargo Net for securing loose items It is basically a way to keep things modular and cheap while you decide on a permanent setup and I found that using a simple ratcheting bar like the Heininger 4016 Hitchmate Cargo Bar works way better for the short bed than a fixed divider because you can move it depending on what you are hauling that day. Does anyone know the exact load rating for those molded-in board slots because I couldnt find the specific PSI limit in the manual?

Yo, congrats on the AT4X! That stance is seriously mean. I've spent a ton of time dialing in my short bed setup, and honestly, it's a bit of a puzzle to keep the MultiStow and 120V outlet accessible without it becoming a mess.

For your situation, I would suggest comparing these two paths:

**Option A: Low-Profile Hard-Folding Cover**
I’ve been using the BAK Industries BAKFlip MX4 Hard Folding Truck Bed Tonneau Cover.
*Pros:* High-end security, looks sleek, and doesn't mess with the MultiStow operation at all.
*Cons:* When it's fully folded against the cab, it blocks the rear view and covers the LED bed lights.
Basically, it’s great for daily security but kinda annoying for lighting at night if you're hauling tall stuff.

**Option B: Heavy-Duty Bed Rack**
If you're dead set on overlanding, check out the Leitner Designs Active Cargo System Forged.
*Pros:* Infinite mounting for recovery gear and RTTs.
*Cons:* Zero weather protection and it makes the bed feel much smaller.
Make sure to watch the weight—too much gear up high really messes with the AT4X's specific suspension tuning... be careful with that.

**The Protection Piece**
I really like the WeatherTech TechLiner Bed Liner vs a thick rubber mat. The TechLiner is pretty thin and fits the dimensions perfectly, so it doesn't bunch up near the tailgate storage.

Honestly, I'd go with the MX4 first. It protects your gear from the elements and keeps "sticky fingers" away. Just be careful with the drain tubes—route 'em behind the trim so they don't block that 120V outlet! peace.

Yo, congrats! I struggled with the same 'blank canvas' vibe last year... basically a total Tetris game.

1. Check out the Coloradofans forum; their Gen 3 technical threads are realy gold for clearance specs.
2. Pro tip: Use the Custom Offsets gallery to see how racks sit on the AT4X stance.

Quick question tho: whats ur budget? And r u planning on leaving a rack on 24/7?? Higher-end setups are pricey but worth the long-term cost.
