Which magnetic phone mount works best in GMC Terrain?

Hey everyone! I’m reaching out to the community because I’m having a bit of a struggle finding the perfect magnetic phone mount for my GMC Terrain. I’ve tried a couple of generic options from Amazon, but they just don't seem to play nice with the interior layout of this vehicle.

The main issue I’m running into is the dash design. The textured material on the top of the dashboard makes it really hard for suction cups to stay put, especially during the summer heat when the cabin gets baked. I also looked at the air vents, but they feel a bit flimsy, and I’m worried that the weight of my iPhone (it’s a Pro Max, so it’s pretty heavy) might eventually snap the slats or just cause the phone to sag and point toward the floor every time I hit a pothole.

I really prefer a magnetic setup because it’s so much faster to just 'slap and go' rather than fiddling with those spring-loaded cradles. I’m specifically looking for something that won’t block the infotainment screen or interfere with the climate control knobs, as the layout is already a bit tight. I’ve seen some people mention custom-fit brackets like ProClip, but I wasn’t sure if they had a solid magnetic attachment that works well with the Terrain’s specific trim.

Has anyone found a magnetic mount that feels like it was actually made for our SUVs? I’m willing to spend a little extra (maybe up to $50 or $60) if it means I don’t have to worry about my phone flying into the passenger footwell every time I take a sharp turn.

Does anyone have a specific brand or mounting location in their Terrain that they absolutely swear by?

For your situation, I'd seriously avoid anything that sticks to the dash or clips to the vents. Safety first—a flying Pro Max is a literal projectile! I've been super satisfied with the WeatherTech CupFone with Extension and Magnetic Head. It's around $60, but since it sits in the cup holder, it's rock solid and keeps your phone away from the screen and knobs. Honestly, it's the only thing that handles the heat without falling off!

Honestly, I totally get the frustration with the GMC Terrain's interior layout. I've been there... and unfortunately, I've had issues with several mounts failing during summer heatwaves. My first attempt with a generic suction mount was a disaster; the textured dash just won't hold it.

For your situation, I would suggest going the custom route. I eventually bit the bullet on the ProClip Center Mount 855355 specifically for the Terrain. It clips into the seams of the dash so it's rock solid. I paired it with the ProClip MagicMount Pro XL Magnetic Holder to handle my heavy phone.

Another option is the WeatherTech CupFone with Magnetic Extension, which avoids the dash entirely, but it does take up a cupholder. Personally, I think the ProClip is safer because it keeps your eyes up. It's a bit pricier, but seriously, it's better than your phone flying into the footwell! Hope this helps!

Be careful with any vent mounts on the GMC Terrain! I've seen too many people snap those thin plastic slats because the iPhone+15+Pro+Max&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">iPhone 15 Pro Max is just too heavy, especially on bumpy roads. Honestly, the heat in the summer will also make those cheap adhesive pads peel right off that textured dash.

Since you're looking for a solid resource, check out WeatherTech CupFone with Magnetic Extension. It's a bit of a different approach since it sits in the cup holder, but it's super stable and keeps your dash clear. Another great tool to look into is the Scosche MagicMount Pro XL Magnetic Dash Mount—it's got a much stronger magnet for those bigger phones. Just make sure to prep the surface with an alcohol pad first, or it won't stand a chance against the heat!

Seconding the recommendation above about avoiding those flimsy vents! I'm super cautious with my gear, and honestly, risking a broken slat on a Pro Max isn't worth it.

I just found this thread and wanted to share my setup because I'm very satisfied with how it handles the heat and weight. I'm a bit of an expert on these layouts—wait, getting sidetracked here—point is, you need something solid that won't ruin the dash.

Here's how I compared my options for the Terrain:

1. **High-End Custom:** The ProClip Center Mount 855355 paired with the ProClip MagSafe Compatible Magnet Mount is the gold standard. It's rock-solid, but it'll run you about $60-$70 total. It clips into the seams of the dash so no adhesive fails in the sun.
2. **Budget-Friendly Adhesive:** If you want to spend less, I've had great luck with the LISEN Magnetic Phone Holder for Car. Instead of the dash top, I stuck it to the smooth plastic trim piece to the right of the screen.
3. **The Stability Winner:** For a Pro Max, the Scosche MagicMount Pro Dash works well if you prep the surface with rubbing alcohol first.

Personally, the ProClip is my top pick for safety and reliability. It definitely won't fly into the footwell! Hope this helps!
