Which off-road accessories should I get for the GMC Hummer EV Pickup?

Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and took delivery of my GMC Hummer EV Pickup last week. Honestly, calling it a "truck" feels like an understatement—it feels more like I’m piloting a moon rover! I’ve spent the last few days just playing around with the CrabWalk and the Extract Mode in my local fields, but I’m dying to actually get it out into some more challenging terrain.

I’m planning a trip out to Moab in a few months, and while the stock Extreme Off-Road Package is incredible, I’m starting to realize there are a few gaps I need to fill for a serious multi-day trek. My biggest concern right now is the sheer weight of this beast. Since it’s pushing over 9,000 lbs, I’m a bit nervous about recovery gear. Most standard kinetic ropes or winches I see online seem like they’d struggle if I actually got high-centered or buried in deep sand. Are there specific heavy-duty recovery boards or high-capacity winches you guys trust with a vehicle this heavy?

I’ve also been looking at bed storage solutions. Since the full-size spare tire is so massive, it eats up a lot of the usable space if I mount it in the bed. I’m curious if anyone has found a modular rack system or a swing-away mount that works well with the MultiPro Tailgate. Also, what’s the consensus on auxiliary lighting? I’d love to add some ditch lights or a roof bar for night trail riding, but I’m worried about how much it might impact the range or if the 12V electrical system is a headache to tap into for DIY installs.

I’ve scrolled through the official GMC accessories catalog, but the prices are pretty eye-watering, so I’m wondering if there are any high-quality aftermarket brands that have started making dedicated parts for the EV platform yet.

For those of you who have actually hit the technical trails with your Hummer EV, what are the absolute "must-have" accessories you’d recommend for someone looking to do more than just mall crawling?

Basically, you gotta remember that 9,000 lbs is no joke for physics. Standard gear will literally snap under that load, which is why safety is the highkey priority when you're out in Moab.

Since the weight is so high, you need recovery gear with a massive breaking strength to stay safe. Here is what I suggest:

* Yankum Ropes 1.5 inch x 30 foot Kinetic Recovery Rope - This thing is a beast and handles the weight well.
* MAXTRAX XTREME Recovery Boards - Seriously, dont get the cheap ones; they'll melt under this truck.
* WARN 103255 VR EVO 12-S Winch - A 12,000 lb capacity is basically the minimum I'd trust.

I've been super satisfied with these picks. For the electrical stuff, the Hummer has a factory accessory block, so it's not a total headache to wire things up. Just be cautious with the range impact from big light bars cuz they do catch the wind. gl!

Story time: I actually went through this exact same panic last year when I first took my heavy EV off the pavement. Ngl, I spent weeks obsessing over that 9,000 lb curb weight because physics doesn't care how cool ur truck looks!! I remember looking at the official GMC catalog and basically almost fainting at the prices... like $800 just for a basic mount? No thanks.

I ended up going the budget route for my recovery kit to save cash for the actual trip. Instead of the super expensive brands mentioned earlier, I found that the VEVOR Kinetic Recovery Rope 1-1/4 inch x 30 ft 52300 lbs Breaking Strength is a total lifesaver for way less money, usually under $150. I also grabbed a pair of X-BULL Recovery Traction Boards Generation 3.0 for about $85. They're much cheaper than the "pro" brands and honestly held up fine when I got buried in soft sand.

A few lessons I learned along the way:

* Safety first: Never skimp on shackles. I trust the GearAmerica 5/8" Mega Shackle 68,000 lbs MBS cuz they're beefy enough for the Hummer's mass.
* Lighting: To save on range and money, I skipped the huge roof bar and just got some Nilight 4 Inch 60W LED Pods for my ditch lights. They're like $20-30 and work great!
* DIY storage: I actually built a simple bed divider with 2x6 lumber for like $15 to keep my gear from sliding around lol.

Anyway, Moab is amazing but it’s reallyyy wild the first time ur piloting that much weight. Good luck!! 👍

Seconding the recommendation above. Honestly, that 9k weight is wild. Just wanted to add a couple technical things:

1. Look for soft shackles rated for at least 45,000 lbs—idk if standard steel ones are safe if something snaps.
2. For lights, definitely use the factory aux switch bank if ur truck has it, it keeps the 12V wiring super clean.

But yeah, physics is basically no joke with these beasts lol.

+1 to what was said earlier. Seriously, that 9,000 lbs is a total game changer!! I’ve been off-roading for over a decade and when I first got my current setup out on the rocks, the sheer physics of it blew my mind. I actually went through a similar dilemma with the bed storage because of that massive spare tire. I ended up DIY-ing a custom mount using some heavy-duty steel brackets I found online rather than paying the crazy dealer prices, and it’s held up perfectly through some rough terrain.

Honestly, for lights, dont overthink the range impact. I’ve been running a roof bar and ditch lights on my rig for months and I barely noticed a dip in battery life while crawling. Tapping into the factory aux bank was way easier than I expected too!! Moab is gonna be amazing, but definitely prioritize those high-rated shackles... I’ve seen people snap cheap gear on lighter trucks and it's scary stuff. gl!
