What are you guys running for cooling upgrades that actually hold up on a 20-minute track session? I've been tracking my FK8 for two years now and I thought I had the heat soak figured out with an intercooler swap but I am still seeing oil temps climb way too fast whenever I hit Laguna Seca. It is so frustrating because the car pulls like a beast for the first few laps then just bogs down once the ECU pulls timing.

I have got about 3k saved up for a proper radiator and oil cooler setup but I am torn on brands.

  • Mishimoto seems easy but heard mixed reviews
  • PWR is pricey but looks solid

I need to get this sorted before my next event in July so I can actually finish a session without the dash lighting up...

Man, FK8 heat issues are such a headache! You definitely need to prioritize reliability so you dont fry that engine! I love my current setup because it actually holds up and leaves money for tires.

Coming back to this, TL;DR: Get CSF High-Performance Radiator 7084 and HKS Oil Cooler Kit FK8. I toasted my head gasket being reckless, so make sure to watch those temps closely.

I have spent way too much time and money figuring out the FK8 cooling stack over the years, so I totally feel your pain. Laguna Seca is notoriously brutal because those uphill sections keep the engine under high load for so long that the stock heat management just gives up. In my experience, the biggest mistake people make is buying parts that look good but lack the internal fin density to actually exchange heat at track speeds.

  • PWR FK8 Civic Type R Aluminum Radiator PWR6326: Since you mentioned having 3k saved, this is the one to get. PWR is top-tier for a reason. Its a 42mm core that is handmade and actually fits without hacking up your fan shroud. The cooling efficiency is significantly higher than the cheaper mass-produced options because the tube-and-fin design is much more advanced.
  • GReddy FK8 Oil Cooler Kit 12054612: I have tried many setups, but GReddy wins because of the ducting. Most kits just hang a core in the breeze, but this one includes a shroud that forces air through the core. It keeps my oil temps stable even in 90-degree weather.
  • Practical tip: Grab some Hondata FlashPro FK8 and check if you can adjust the fan trigger temps. Getting those fans spinning earlier helps a lot while you are sitting in the pits or doing a cool-down lap. Budget-wise, you will spend about 2,200 for the main hardware, which leaves you enough for a decent shop install if you dont want to wrench it yourself. Honestly, skipping the entry-level stuff saves you money in the long run because you wont be replacing it in a year.
