Hey everyone! I finally joined the club and picked up my Civic Type R recently. I’m absolutely obsessed with the driving experience so far, but now that the initial "new car" high is settling, I’m starting to look for ways to spruce up the interior. The stock red bucket seats are iconic, but I’m honestly a bit nervous about keeping them clean and protected from daily wear and tear.

I’ve been browsing a few sites, but I’d love some real-world feedback from owners. Specifically, I’m searching for high-quality all-weather floor mats that don't ruin the sporty aesthetic—maybe something with a subtle red trim or a carbon fiber look? Also, the Alcantara steering wheel feels amazing, but I’m worried about it getting oily or matted over time; has anyone found a specific cleaning kit or a high-end protector that actually works? Lastly, I’m struggling to find a phone mount that doesn’t look clunky or block the unique honeycomb dash vents.

I really want to maintain that "OEM-plus" look without going overboard with cheap-looking plastic. What are the absolute best interior accessories you’ve added to your CTR that genuinely improved the daily driving experience or helped preserve the cabin?

I would suggest checking out the 3D MAXpider KAGU Series Floor Mats. They're usually way cheaper than the boutique brands but honestly look more OEM-plus with that carbon texture. For the wheel, seriously just grab a Kiwi Suede and Nubuck Brush for like $7—it keeps the nap from matting without needing expensive chemicals. Also look into the Aoyite Honda Civic Dashboard Phone Holder; it clips near the hazards so it wont block those honeycomb vents. gl!

Yo, congrats on the CTR! I've been dailying mine for 3 years and honestly, keeping the interior mint is a struggle. I highkey wasted money on stuff that looked cheap before finding what actually works. * **Floor Mats:** I tried WeatherTech FloorLiner for Honda Civic first but they felt way too industrial... kinda ruined the vibe. I swapped to TuxMat Floor Mats for Honda Civic and they're literally so much better. I mean, they actually have a premium finish that fits the "OEM-plus" look perfectly.
* **Alcantara Care:** Don't use generic sprays!! I did and it matted my wheel... total nightmare. I only use Sonax Alcantara and Upholstery Cleaner now with a soft brush. It's the only way to keep it from getting greasy.
* **Phone Mount:** Skip the vent clips. The A-Tach Mounts Honda Civic Dash Mount is the only one that doesn't ruin the honeycomb look. But yeah, its a learning curve. gl!

Whatever you do, watch out for those cheap 'carbon fiber' plastic covers or stick-on trim pieces from random sites. I went through this last year and honestly, they look okay for a week then start peeling or rattling like crazy because of the cabin heat... it totally ruins the premium vibe. In my experience, trying to protect those iconic red seats with generic covers was a massive mistake too. They never fit right and made the interior look cheap, so I just ended up being super strict about no food or drinks. For the Alcantara, I was lowkey obsessed with keeping it perfect and found that if you don't stay on top of it, the oils from ur hands make it look nasty fast. I've tried many things but basically, I just keep a clean microfiber cloth in the glovebox and wipe it down often. It’s a bit of a chore tho, but worth it to keep that fresh look without spending a fortune!

yo, congrats on the pickup! i went through this last year when i first got mine. after driving CTRs for over five years now, my biggest focus is always safety and long-term durability. i actually had a scary moment with a cheap floor mat bunching up near the clutch pedal once, so now im super picky about fitment. i ended up going with TuxMat Floor Mats for Honda Civic Hatchback. they cover way more carpet than the usual brands and honestly look like a custom upholstery job rather than just rubber mats. they stay locked in place perfectly which is a huge peace of mind thing. for the wheel, i found that using Dr. Beasley's Microsuede Cleanser keeps the texture from getting that gross greasy feel without making it slippery. also, i know it sounds a bit much, but i started using Sparco Meca 3 Mechanics Gloves for longer canyon runs just to keep my hand oils off the Alcantara entirely. for the phone, check out the Course Motorsports Direct Fit Phone Mount for Honda Civic. it actually bolts onto the dash frame so it wont fly off during hard cornering like those vent clips do. gl with the build!!

Building on the earlier suggestion about the mats, I totally get the struggle with the industrial look vs. performance. I went through three different sets before I found a balance between technical specs and the CTR's interior vibe.

  • The first set I had used a high-density TPE that was technically waterproof but way too slippery for heel-toe downshifts... my foot kept sliding during hard braking.
  • My second attempt was a cheaper rubber blend that had a weird Shore A hardness rating, basically felt like walking on a sponge.
  • The setup I'm running now uses a multi-layered XPE foam core which actually helps with NVH since it dampens some of that road noise coming through the floorpan. I learned the hard way that the technical mounting points matter way more than the top material. If the eyelets arent precision-molded to the Honda floor anchors, the mat starts creeping up under the pedals when youre pushing the car. Tbh, check the underside friction coefficient before you buy because some of those aggressive plastic nibs will actually shred your factory carpet over time.
