Hey everyone! I finally pulled the trigger and brought home a new Honda Civic Type R. I’m absolutely in love with the driving experience so far, but I’m already getting a bit nervous about keeping that pristine interior looking sharp. Those signature red seats are iconic, but I can tell they’re going to be a magnet for dust and denim transfer over time.

I’ve been looking into some basic protective gear, but I don't want to clutter the cabin with cheap stuff that ruins the 'R' aesthetic. I’m specifically looking for high-quality floor mats—maybe something better than the OEM ones for all-weather use—and definitely something to protect the side bolsters on those aggressive bucket seats since they take a beating every time I get in and out. I also noticed the metal shift knob gets incredibly hot after sitting in the sun for just an hour; has anyone found a sleek cover or a high-quality replacement that doesn't feel out of place? Lastly, I'm considering a tempered glass protector for the infotainment screen to manage the constant fingerprints.

I want to keep the car looking mint while making it a bit more practical for daily use. What are the absolute 'day one' interior mods or accessories you guys recommend for a new owner?

Yo, congrats on the new CTR! Seriously, the driving feel is insane, but I totally get the anxiety about that interior. The problem with the Type R cabin is basically that Honda used these gorgeous but *delicate* materials that look mint day one but wear fast if you're actually dailying it... it's like, you want to enjoy it but you're scared to touch it, right?

For your situation, I've found that you don't actually have to spend a fortune to keep it looking sharp. First off, skip the overpriced OEM all-weathers. I highkey recommend TuxMat Custom Car Mats for Honda Civic 2022-2025 instead. They're around $198 and give way better coverage—they basically go all the way up the sides, which is huge for protecting the carpet from salt or dirt.

For the bolsters, those are the first things to go. Instead of expensive full covers that hide the red, look for DreamStick Seat Bolster Protector for Honda Civic Type R. They run about $60 and honestly save the seat from that "collapsed" look. For that lava-hot shift knob? You could get a cheap hoodie cover, but the Acuity Instruments ESCO Insulated Shift Knob is about $80 and it's basically heat-resistant. It feels amazing and won't burn your skin off in July.

Lastly, don't overthink the screen. Grab the Spigen Glas.tR Slim Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Honda Civic 9-Inch for about $18. It’s a lifesaver for fingerprints and it fits perfectly. Keeping it clean doesn't have to be a money pit if you just grab these basics. Enjoy the ride, dude! 👍

Ok so, basically Honda used Alcantara because the high-friction surface provides the lateral support needed for high G-forces, but those microfibers are magnets for skin oils and denim dye. If you don't stay ahead of it, that red looks dingy fast. I'm still kinda new to the CTR world, but I've been super satisfied with TuxMat for 2023-2024 Honda Civic—they cover almost all the carpet and look way more premium than OEM rubber. For that burning shift knob, I think a Spoon Sports Shift Knob Cover is the best low-key fix so you dont have to swap the iconic OEM knob out. Also, check out the ScreenProTech Honda Civic 11th Gen Interior Kit cuz it protects the screen AND that fragile piano black trim that scratches sooo easily. It works well for me, no complaints!! gl!

If you're looking to keep that red interior pristine while improving the daily drive, here are the absolute essentials for the FL5/FK8:

  • All-Weather Floor Mats: The red carpet is iconic but a nightmare to clean. TuxMats or the OEM High-Wall mats are mandatory to save your sanity.

  • Weighted/Leather Shift Knob: That stock aluminum knob is a "branding iron" in summer and an ice cube in winter. Swapping to a leather-wrapped or Delrin knob (like Hybrid Racing) is a huge quality-of-life upgrade.

  • Center Console Organizer: The console is basically a deep "black hole." A $15 drop-in tray keeps your wallet and keys from disappearing.

  • Tempered Glass Screen Protector: The infotainment screen is a fingerprint magnet; a matte protector keeps it looking clean and adds scratch resistance.

  • Seat Back Protectors: If you ever throw gear in the back, these protect the red fabric from scuffs.

Yeah, congrats on the CTR! I’m honestly super paranoid about those red seats too. Before you even drive it much, you should look into some kind of fabric protection to stop that denim transfer. I’ve been debating between doing a full DIY job or taking it to a detailer, but basically, you can save a lot of money doing it yourself if you're careful. I’ve been comparing 3M Scotchgard Fabric Water Shield versus something more specialized like Gyeon Q2 FabricCoat. The Scotchgard is super easy to find and cheap, but honestly, I’m not sure if it’s strong enough for those high-wear bolsters. The Gyeon stuff is basically a ceramic coating for your fabric—it’s way more durable and hydrophobic, but you have to be really careful with the application. I'm always a bit worried I'll over-saturate the Alcantara and mess up the texture... that’s the main risk with the pro-grade DIY stuff. For the screen, instead of glass, I actually prefer a matte film like the Photodon Screen Protector. It handles glare way better than tempered glass and doesn't show fingerprints as much, though glass feels a bit more 'premium' under your finger. Tbh, just taking it slow with the DIY stuff is the best way to keep that 'R' vibe without overspending.

Saved for later, ty!

Loose mats jam pedals—unfortunately had issues with that. Get Husky Liners Weatherbeater Floor Mats for $100. Also, metal knobs burn hands; a $12 Mishimoto Shift Knob Cover is a lifesaver. honestly essential!! lol
