Yo, congrats on the new FL5! That car is freaking amazing and you are gonna have a blast at the track! Since you are worried about the warranty, I would say stay far away from the Hondata for now... Honda dealers can be super picky if they see that ECU has been messed with. Plus, you dont really need more power yet! Track days are all about managing heat and staying safe. If it were my $1500, I would skip the intake too and focus on things that actually stop you from hitting a wall or overheating. Power is useless if the car pulls timing because it is getting too hot after two laps. Here is exactly what I did for my first weekend to keep things reliable:

  • Saw this earlier but just now getting a chance to reply... Honestly, dont waste your money on the intake or the flash right now. I made the mistake of dropping way too much on a carbon intake for my first track season and it was such a disappointment. It sounded sick, sure, but my lap times didnt budge and the heat soak was still brutal after just a few laps. It basically felt like I paid over a grand for a noise maker once the engine bay got hot. And yeah, if you're worried about warranty, definitely skip the flash. If you blow something, Honda will find that footprint. I had a buddy who got his claim denied over a tune and it was a total nightmare. Since you have a track day in two weeks, you should really look at tires. The stock ones are okay, but they get greasy way faster than you'd expect. I switched over to Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 265/30ZR19 and the consistency was so much better. If you really want to spend that $1500 on hardware, look at the PRL Motorsports High-Volume Intercooler for FL5 Civic Type R. These cars struggle so much with heat, and power is useless if the ECU starts pulling timing five minutes into your session. Better to have consistent power for 20 minutes than a huge burst for 3 minutes before the car gets unhappy. Its way more fun to actually stay on the track than to sit in the pits waiting for things to cool down.

Ngl, skip the power flash for now! Power is basically useless if the car starts cutting timing halfway through your third lap. I learned this the hard way at a track event last summer. I was so stoked on my tune, but my oil temps were absolutely skyrocketing within minutes. The ECU started pulling crazy amounts of power to save the motor and it was super frustrating watching everyone pass me while I was basically in a glorified limp mode. It taught me that reliability and cooling are everything when you're pushing these cars hard. Honestly, keeping that engine happy and the temps stable is the real secret to faster lap times, not just chasing peak horsepower numbers! I love digging into the data logs and seeing how much heat soak kills performance... definitely prioritize keeping things cool and safe first!

I've been really satisfied prioritizing my consumables lately. Managing heat works well for getting consistent laps. I followed some data on the CivicXI technical forums and focused on these essentials:
