Hey everyone! I finally did it—I’m officially a proud owner of a 2024 Honda Civic Type R (FL5), and man, what an incredible machine. I’ve spent the last few weeks just getting used to the way it handles and that legendary shifter feel, but I’m already starting to get that "mod bug" itch. While the car is fantastic straight from the factory, I feel like there’s a bit more potential waiting to be unlocked, especially since I plan on hitting a few local track days this summer.

I’ve been browsing through various catalogs, but the sheer volume of aftermarket performance accessories is honestly a bit overwhelming. I’m looking for upgrades that provide a noticeable difference in performance without making the car unbearable for daily driving. I’m particularly curious about heat management—I’ve heard these K20C1 engines can get pretty toasty during hard sessions. Would a high-volume intercooler or an upgraded oil cooler be a better starting point for reliability, or should I focus on airflow first?

In terms of breathing, I was looking at some of the intake systems and cat-back exhausts. I’d love something that gives the car a bit more of a raw growl without that obnoxious highway drone that ruins long trips. Also, I’ve heard a lot of talk about upgrading the rear motor mount (RMM) to help with wheel hop during aggressive launches; has anyone here done that on the newer generation, and does it add a ton of vibration to the cabin?

My budget is flexible, but I’d like to start with a few "bang-for-your-buck" mods before diving into the really expensive stuff like turbo swaps. I’m really searching for that sweet spot where the car feels even sharper in the corners and just a bit more responsive on the throttle. For those of you who have been living with a modified CTR for a while, what were the first few things you changed that actually made a difference you could feel in the seat of your pants?

Which performance accessories do you think are the absolute "must-haves" for someone looking to enhance the Honda Civic Type R's driving dynamics and cooling efficiency?

So basically, heat is the biggest enemy of the K20C1... if things get too toasty, the car pulls power to stay safe, which kinda ruins the fun. I'm still a bit of a beginner, but I've found that starting with cooling is definately the safest bet for longevity! - Mishimoto Performance Intercooler for 2023+ Honda Civic Type R - Honestly, it realy helps keep temps stable during sessions.
- Hasport Rear Motor Mount (62A Street) for FL5 Civic Type R - Fixed my wheel hop, but yeah, it adds a tiny bit of vibration... totally worth it tho! good luck!

> I’m particularly curious about heat management Late to the party but +1 to the above! For safety, a radiator upgrade is essential since heat soak leads to limp mode on track. I've used the CSF High-Performance All-Aluminum Radiator #7091 for years and it's worked well to keep temps stable. Plus, grab some Castrol SRF React Racing Brake Fluid so ur pedal doesnt go soft mid-corner. gl! 👍

Focus on the PRL Motorsports High Volume Intake System and an oil cooler like the HKS Oil Cooler Kit for Civic Type R first to handle track heat. +1 to what was said earlier! Heat soak is basically the FL5's biggest party pooper. I mean, i noticed my temps spiking after just three laps during my first session, right? If ur gonna hit the track, u gotta balance airflow with actual cooling hardware. - PRL Motorsports High Volume Intake System vs Eventuri Carbon Fiber Intake System: PRL is basically the best bang-for-your-buck and sounds SO good. Eventuri looks like art, but it's reallyyy pricey for similar airflow gains.
- HKS Legamax Premium Exhaust vs Milltek Sport Road+ Cat-Back: HKS is lowkey perfect for dailying. Zero drone on the highway, just a deep, mature growl. Milltek is a bit more aggressive if u want that raw vibe. I actually added the Whiteline Rear Motor Mount Bushing too. It helps with wheel hop but doesnt vibrate ur teeth out like those hardcore race mounts. idk if that helps but gl with the new ride! 👍

yo, congrats on the FL5! honestly, i remember when i first got mine, i went down a total rabbit hole of expensive carbon bits that did literally nothing for my lap times lol. i spent way too much early on before realizing that heat management is where the real "bang-for-your-buck" is at if you're actually planning to track it. for your cooling dilemma, here’s my take: oil cooler vs intercooler. if youre actually hitting the track, the Koyorad Racing Aluminum Radiator for 2023+ Honda Civic Type R is a total sleeper mod that honestly does more for overall stability than people think. but for pure value, i’d look into the Sirimoto Oil Cooler Kit for Civic Type R. its a bit more wallet-friendly than the high-end boutique brands but keeps those oil temps in check perfectly during hard sessions. i think the oil cooler is a better "first" move because oil temps usually spike way before the intake air becomes the main limiting factor on the FL5. breathing-wise, if you want that raw growl without making your ears bleed on the highway, im a huge fan of the AWE Tuning Touring Edition Exhaust for FL5. it uses their patented 180 Technology for drone-canceling which is a lifesaver for daily driving. plus, for the intake, check out the HPS Performance Short Ram Air Intake for Honda Civic Type R. it’s got a great turbo spool sound and it's super easy on the budget compared to the crazy expensive carbon systems. regarding the motor mount, i installed the Perrin Rear Motor Mount for 2023+ Civic Type R and its been a game changer for wheel hop. yeah, you get a tiny bit of vibration (NVH) when the A/C is on at a red light, but once youre moving? its smooth as butter and makes the car feel way more connected. lesson learned: dont chase peak horsepower numbers first. focus on keeping the car cool so you can actually USE the power you already have for more than two laps!! gl man 👍
