Hey everyone! We recently joined the Palisade family with a 2023 model, and we’re absolutely loving the extra room for the kids. However, as we start planning our first big summer road trip, I realized we’re definitely going to need some extra storage on top for our luggage pod and maybe a couple of bikes.
I’ve been doing some research, but I’m a bit stuck on which crossbars to get. My Palisade has the flush side rails, and I’m really concerned about finding a setup that doesn't interfere with the panoramic sunroof or create a ton of whistling wind noise at highway speeds. I’ve looked at the Thule WingBar and the Yakima JetStream, but they are quite an investment. I’m also seeing some OEM options and cheaper alternatives on Amazon, but I’m worried about the long-term durability and how they affect fuel economy.
Has anyone found a specific brand or model that strikes a good balance between a low-profile look and heavy-duty performance? I’d ideally like to stay under a $500 budget, but I’m willing to pay more for something that is easy to install and won’t scratch the rails.
For those of you who have already equipped your Palisade, which roof rack options have worked best for you, and did you notice any major issues with wind noise or sunroof clearance?
Basically, before you buy anything, you gotta understand that the 2023 Palisade flush rails have very tight tolerances. If you mount crossbars that sit too low, you risk the panoramic sunroof hitting the bar when it tilts, which is a massive repair bill you definitely wanna avoid... i think? Honestly, for your $500 budget, I'd seriously look at the Hyundai Palisade OEM Roof Rack Crossbars S8F21-AU001. They're engineered specifically for the sunroof clearance and they're way more affordable than Thule. If you really care about wind noise tho, the Thule WingBar Edge is the gold standard for being quiet, but itll definitely push your budget. Just a heads up: whatever you pick, use a torque wrench! Over-tightening can literally warp those flush rails or cause whistling if the seals aren't perfect. Better safe than sorry when youre hauling the kids and gear, right? gl!
Here's what I recommend: get the Rhino-Rack Vortex StealthBar Black!! Its precision-engineered for specific clearance so ur panoramic sunroof wont hit. Safest tech-heavy option for flush rails with AMAZING durability!

So basically the consensus is sunroof clearance is the biggest risk. Honestly, premium brands offer better value than cheap alternatives. Do you plan on hauling heavy bikes or just bags?
