Hey everyone! I just recently took delivery of a new Infiniti QX55 in the Sensory trim, and I’m absolutely loving the sleek look of the car, but I’m getting a bit anxious about protecting it. With all the crazy drivers out there, I really want to install a high-quality dash cam as soon as possible to cover my back in case of an accident or any parking lot mishaps.
Since the Sensory trim comes with that specific rearview mirror housing and the ProPILOT Assist sensors, I’m a little concerned about finding a setup that fits cleanly. I’m looking for something that offers 4K resolution and has a reliable parking mode, but I really don’t want a bulky unit that ruins the interior aesthetic or interferes with the safety tech. I’ve been looking at brands like BlackVue or Thinkware, but I’m not sure which one fits the QX55’s windshield profile the best without being an eyesore.
Has anyone here installed a dash cam in their QX55 yet? I’m particularly interested in hearing about hardwiring experiences—did you have any trouble tapping into the fuse box or dealing with the auto start-stop system?
Does anyone have a specific model recommendation that looks almost like an OEM fit for this car?
Seconding the recommendation above! The cylinder design of the BlackVue DR970X-2CH Plus 4K UHD Dash Cam with 64GB microSD is basically perfect for the QX55 sensor housing. But be careful with hardwiring; the Infiniti's auto start-stop can cause voltage drops that mess with parking mode. I would suggest adding a BlackVue Power Magic Ultra Battery B-130X to avoid any electrical gremlins. It's way more reliable long-term, ngl. gl!
Respectfully, I'd consider another option if you're highkey worried about those ProPILOT sensors and keeping the Sensory trim looking clean. I've had a different experience with universal cylinder cams—they're okay, but they still look like an add-on. You should check out the FITCAMX Dash Cam for Infiniti QX55 4K UHD with 128GB microSDXC Card. It literally replaces the factory mirror shell, so it looks 100% OEM and doesn't block any of the safety tech at all.
TL;DR: Use the FITCAMX Dash Cam for Infiniti QX55 4K UHD with 128GB microSDXC Card for a true factory look that wont interfere with your sensors.
Quick tip: To protect your electrical system from that start-stop voltage drop, definitely use a dedicated BlackVue B-130X Ultra Magic Battery Pack instead of tapping the fuse box directly. It's much safer for the car's long-term reliability! gl!
Totally agree with the cylinder design choice! It fits way better than the wedge types. Just a warning tho, be REALLY careful when hardwiring:
- Don't tap into safety fuses (airbags/sensors)
- Always use a multimeter to verify ur circuits
- Watch for voltage drops with the start-stop system
Tapping the wrong one can throw a code and mess with ur ProPILOT tech, which is pricey to fix. gl!
