just picked up a black opal q50 and need more power before the meet this saturday so i gotta move fast. i got like 1500 to spend and im stuck between getting the jb4 tuner for that instant boost or just going with the ams intakes and a lower downpipe setup first. which one is gonna give me the best bang for buck right now?
ngl Mishimoto Performance Heat Exchanger Infiniti Q50 Q60 stops heat soak better than a Z1 Motorsports Cat-Back Touring Exhaust Infiniti Q50. Exhaust sounds nice, but dont cool things down. Both solid choices tho.
In my experience with the VR30 platform over the years, the fastest way to get that seat of the pants feel before your meet is definitely the tuner route. I've tried many combinations and the Burger Motorsports JB4 Tuner for Infiniti Q50/Q60 VR30DDTT is basically the gold standard for quick power without pulling the ECU. It's a simple install that transforms the car instantly. If you have 1500 to burn, you should really grab the AMS Performance Lower Downpipes Infiniti Q50 too. Stock ones are super restrictive and swapping them out helps the turbos spool way faster. Ngl, the intakes are cool for the sound, but for actual power gains, the tuner and downpipes are your best bet. If you can swing it, add the AMS Performance Red Alpha Cold Air Intake Infiniti Q50 just to round out the engine bay looks for Saturday... the fitment is perfect and it really cleans up the bay.
Tbh Ive tried many setups over the years. Pushing the VR30 too hard too fast is risky. I almost cooked my turbos on my current setup because I ignored the heat soak. Watch your oil pressure and wastegate data closely or you wont make it to next weeks meet... TL;DR: Reliability first. Dont chase numbers if your cooling and oiling cant handle the extra stress.
