What is the best phone mount for an Infiniti QX50?

Hey everyone! I recently picked up an Infiniti QX50, and while I’m absolutely loving the ride and that sleek dual-screen setup, I’m having a real headache trying to find a practical place to mount my phone. The interior design is beautiful, but the layout doesn't seem very friendly to standard aftermarket accessories.

I’ve experimented with a basic vent mount, but the vents feel a bit narrow, and my phone ends up blocking either the top navigation screen or the climate controls. I also looked into suction mounts for the dashboard, but I’m really hesitant to stick anything onto that premium stitched material—I definitely don't want to leave a permanent ring or ruin the finish. I even considered a cup holder mount, but it sits way too low for comfortable viewing and I’d rather not lose my coffee spot!

I’m using a heavier iPhone Pro Max, so I need something sturdy that won't rattle or sag every time I hit a pothole. I’ve heard some people mention custom-fit brackets like ProClip, but I wanted to check here first. Has anyone found a specific mount that integrates well with the QX50’s dash without looking cluttered or blocking the screens? What are you guys using that actually stays put and looks clean?

I went through this last year when I first got my QX50. Honestly, I'm a bit of a tech nerd and spent hours analyzing the interior geometry because I was terrified of ruining that leather dash with adhesive.

I ended up experimenting with the WeatherTech CupFone with Extension because I thought the adjustable base would solve the height issue you mentioned. It was solid, but I found the viewing angle forced my eyes too far off the road.

Eventually, I switched to the A-Pillar Mount from ProClip (805424) paired with a Scosche MagicMount Pro 2 Magnetic Head. Here's why I'm satisfied with this setup:

1. It uses a "friction fit" into the pillar seam, so no sticky residue on the premium materials.
2. Technically, it keeps the phone at eye level without obstructing the dual-screen setup or the windshield view.
3. The magnetic head handles the weight of my iPhone+Pro+Max+easily&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">iPhone Pro Max easily, even on rough roads.

It’s definitely the cleanest look I've managed to achieve!

Seconding the recommendation above regarding those custom brackets! I've been down the same rabbit hole with my QX50 and, honestly, it's a bit of a nightmare for us tech nerds. I initially tried to save some cash by going with a generic Lamicall Car Vent Phone Mount, but unfortunately, the weight of the iPhone+Pro+Max+just+decimat&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">iPhone Pro Max just decimated the thin plastic slats on the Infiniti's vents. Not as good as expected, and I almost snapped a blade.

Anyway, back to your question—if you're looking for a more cost-conscious but still rock-solid alternative to those pricey ProClip setups, I found a clever workaround. I ended up using the iOttie Easy One Touch 5 Dashboard & Windshield Mount. Here's the trick: instead of sticking it to the premium stitched leather (which is a huge no-go, I totally agree!), I mounted it to the small triangular piece of smooth plastic trim just to the left of the center console. It holds the weight perfectly without any sagging or vibration adn keeps the navigation screen clear.

If you want the ultimate clean look, you could also look at the Scosche MagicMount Pro 2 Magnetic Dash Mount. It has a smaller footprint, but you'll need a MagSafe compatible case. Just be careful with placement; I've found that the heat from the vents can occasionally cause the adhesive on magnetic mounts to fail during long summer drives. FWIW, spending the extra $30 on a solid mounting base is way cheaper than replacing a $1,200 phone or repairing a torn leather dash! Hope this helps!

iOttie Easy One Touch

For those who want a traditional cradle and the flexibility to move the mount between cars.

  • The Fit: It uses a telescopic arm and a patented suction gel pad.

  • Why it’s best: It’s highly adjustable, meaning you can position the phone high enough to see navigation clearly without it obstructing the QX50’s upper infotainment screen.

If you prefer a minimal footprint, Scosche offers magnetic mounts that many Infiniti drivers prefer for their sleek aesthetic.

  • The Fit: You can use a low-profile adhesive mount on the flat plastic trim near the air vents.

  • Why it’s best: It allows for one-handed "snap-on" use. If you have an iPhone with MagSafe, look for their MagSafe-compatible versions to avoid sticking metal plates to your phone.

Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.

Would love to know this too

So I've been looking at the QX50 interior architecture and honestly that dual-screen stack makes the ergonomics a total nightmare for mounting if you want it to look factory. Before you commit to a specific setup though I gotta ask: - Are you looking for a "clean" OE look where wires are tucked behind the dash or are you okay with a visible cable?
- Do you have a set of nylon trim removal tools and feel comfortable pulling a bezel or are you strictly looking for a "no-tools-required" snap-on? Basically if you're a DIYer like me you'll find that for those heavier Pro Max phones you realy need a rigid mechanical attachment to avoid that annoying vibration and sagging—tbh those suction and vent solutions just cant handle the leverage over time and usually end up marring the finish anyway. I'm always an advocate for using the factory bolt points behind the trim pieces for a rock solid foundation that doesnt clutter the screens so you get that professional finish without the mess!
