Hey everyone! I’ve been daily driving my Q50 Red Sport for about a year now, and while I love the power, I’m starting to feel like the stock pads just aren't keeping up with the 400hp. I’ve noticed a bit of brake fade during some spirited weekend drives through the canyons, and the brake dust on my rims is becoming a nightmare to keep clean.

I’m looking for an upgrade that offers a much more aggressive initial bite and can handle higher temperatures without giving up on me, but I also don't want something that squeals like a school bus at every stoplight. I’ve been looking into options like the Akebono performance line or maybe some Hawks, but I’m torn between going full ceramic or a high-performance semi-metallic street pad. Since the Red Sport has the larger sport brakes, I want to make sure I’m getting something that actually utilizes that hardware properly.

Does anyone here have firsthand experience with a specific brand that balances stopping power and low noise for this platform? What would you recommend as the best overall performance pad for a Q50 Red Sport that sees both highway commuting and heavy footed weekend fun?

I’ve gotta jump in because I’m totally obsessed with the Q50 RS brakes! Those big Akebonos look so good but the stock pads are definitely the weak link. If you want a real brand comparison, I’ve run both the EBC Brakes Yellowstuff High Friction Brake Pads DP41822R and the EBC Brakes Redstuff Ceramic Brake Pads DP31822C on my setup. The Redstuff is fantastic for a daily because the dust is basically non-existent and they’re silent! But for canyon runs? The Yellowstuff has that aggressive bite that’s just amazing. It makes the car feel so much lighter when you’re shedding speed. They usually run around $160 for the front set which isn't bad at all for the performance boost. Speaking of speed, I actually just spent all morning installing some new carbon fiber mirror caps because I’m trying to go for that full blacked-out look this summer. My garage is literally overflowing with boxes and my wife is definitely gonna kill me if one more delivery shows up lol. It’s a total addiction at this point. Anyway, you’ll love the EBCs if you want a massive upgrade over the stock feel!

For your situation, I've had great luck with StopTech Sport Brake Pads (309.13460) on my Q50. I totally get the frustration with canyon fade; these handle heat way better than stock without breaking the bank. They've got a much sharper bite, and honestly, the dust isn't nearly as bad as high-end semi-metallics. I tried Akebono Performance Ultra-Premium Ceramic Brake Pads before, but they lacked the aggressive feel I wanted for spirited drives. Hope this helps!

In my experience, finding that "perfect" balance for the Q50 Red Sport is a bit of a tightrope walk, especially since those big 4-piston Akebono calipers are actually pretty capable if you feed them the right friction material. I've spent a lot of time debating this for my own setup, and honestly, it usually comes down to two main contenders if you want to avoid that embarrassing school bus squeal at stoplights.

* **Hawk Performance HPS 5.0 Brake Pads**: This is a high-performance ferro-compound that sits right between a street pad and a track pad.
* **Pros:** Way more aggressive initial bite than stock and they handle canyon heat MUCH better than standard ceramics.
* **Cons:** You're still gonna see some dust. It's way easier to clean than the OEM metallic dust, but it’s definitely there.
* **PowerStop Z26 Extreme Performance Carbon-Fiber Ceramic Brake Pads**: These are specifically designed for higher horsepower street cars like the Red Sport.
* **Pros:** Virtually zero noise and the dust is almost non-existent. Seriously, your rims will stay clean for weeks.
* **Cons:** The "bite" feels a little more linear and less "grabby" than the Hawks, which might feel a bit soft if you're used to a very aggressive pedal.

Tbh, if you're really pushing it hard through the canyons, I'd go with the Hawk Performance HPS 5.0 Brake Pads. The confidence you get from that sharper bite is totally worth the extra cleaning effort. Just make sure you bed them in properly or they might get a little chirpy! Good luck with the upgrade!

Respectfully, I'd consider another option before you drop big money on track-focused pads. I remember when I first got my Q50 RS, I went straight for the aggressive semi-metallics, but the dust and noise drove me crazy during my Monday commute. Honestly, if you're looking for value without the squeal, I'd actually suggest a different approach.

Instead of the brands already mentioned, I’ve found that the PowerStop Z23 Evolution Sport Carbon-Fiber Ceramic Brake Pads are the real sweet spot for a daily driver that hits the canyons.

- They offer a much firmer bite than stock but won't coat your rims in black soot after one drive.
- They handle the heat from the 400hp Red Sport setup surprisingly well for the price point.
- They're dead silent, which is a huge plus if you value your sanity at stoplights.

Anyway, back to your question—if you want maximum performance for minimum cash, these are it. It works for my setup, but your mileage may vary depending on how hard you really push those canyons! 🏎️
