Hey everyone! I recently joined the club and picked up a Q50 Black Opal Edition, and I’m absolutely obsessed with how the paint shifts from deep purple to green depending on the light. It’s such a unique look, but I feel like the exterior could use a few subtle touches to really make it pop. I’m a bit hesitant because I don't want to add anything that clashes with that complex Black Opal Metallic finish.
Right now, I'm considering adding a more aggressive front lip and maybe some side skirt extensions to give it a lower profile. I’ve seen several gloss black options, but I’m wondering if I should stick strictly to carbon fiber since the car already comes with that factory CF rear spoiler. I'm also debating whether to do a full chrome delete on the window trim or if the chrome actually helps highlight the darker tones of the paint. My budget is around $1,500 for these initial mods, and I really want to keep it looking clean and OEM+.
For those of you who have worked with this specific color or seen it in person, what exterior styling accessories do you think flow best with the shifting colors? Should I go for gloss black, more carbon fiber, or something else entirely?
Before I give advice, are you prioritizing security? In my years, cheap aero is a safety risk, so tbh I'd go with Seibon Carbon Front Lip Spoiler for 2014-2023 Infiniti Q50 for stability.
Basically, that Black Opal finish is a tri-coat that shifts based on light refraction, so you dont wanna introduce clashing textures. I highkey recommend sticking to 2x2 weave carbon fiber to match your factory specs. Check out the Stillen Front Splitter for Infiniti Q50. For the trim, a chrome delete using 3M 2080 Gloss Black Vinyl actuallyyy makes the purple/green transition look way sharper. It's a technical look that stays OEM+. gl!
In my experience, you really gotta match the 2x2 weave of your factory carbon fiber or the light refraction will look inconsistent. Gloss black might work, but I think the Opal paint needs that CF depth to really pop. Iirc, the chrome trim actually highlights the purple tones, so be careful before doing a full delete? Just make sure to check for pre-drilled holes, you dont wanna mess up the bumper. gl!
Not to disagree, but id actually suggest a different approach... in my years seeing these finishes, i think adding carbon fiber introduces a competing pattern that distracts if the weave doesnt catch light right. - Try any gloss black aero from a brand like Ninte.
- Keep the chrome; it frames those purple tones perfectly. Honestly, its a more cost-effective way to get that OEM+ look and works well with your budget. gl!
Saw this earlier but just now responding!!! Honestly that Black Opal paint is so beautiful it makes me a bit nervous to even touch it. If you are planning on doing the install yourself, you really gotta think about how secure the parts are gonna be at highway speeds. Here is a quick look at two DIY paths:
