I recently picked up a beautiful Jaguar I-PACE HSE, and I’m absolutely loving the drive so far! However, I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed by all the charging accessory options available. I really want to optimize my home setup—ideally with a reliable Level 2 wallbox that integrates seamlessly with the Jaguar Remote app for scheduling. I’m also on the hunt for a high-quality, weather-rated Type 2 cable for public charging, as the ones I’ve seen feel a bit flimsy. Have any of you had better luck with specific brands like ChargePoint or Grizzl-E for your I-PACE? I’m looking for something durable that handles the car's 11kW onboard charger well. What charging gear have you found to be the most dependable?
Story time: i basically found the ChargePoint Home Flex Level 2 EV Charger 50 Amp handles the 11kW draw perfectly, plus my Mennekes Type 2 Charging Cable Mode 3 has been totally bulletproof!!
For your situation, I've done a bunch of digging because I wanted the best bang for my buck too. Honestly, the I-PACE's 11kW charger is a beast, so you definitely don't want to cheap out on the wallbox hardware even if you're trying to save money. TL;DR: I'd skip the super expensive boutique brands and get the Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48 Amp for home. It's affordable, handles the full 11kW load, and has a great app. Here's how I see the options for the wallbox: Option A (Budget/Simple): Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40 Amp. It's literally built like a tank and weather-rated like crazy. No smart features tho, so you'd rely 100% on the Jaguar Remote app for scheduling. Costs around $350. Option B (The Value King): Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48 Amp. This is what I went with. It's usually under $450 and gives you 48 amps, which maxes out that 11kW onboard charger perfectly (you need 48A to hit 11kW on a single-phase US home setup). The app is actually better than the Jag one for tracking costs tbh.
In my experience, picking the right gear is tricky. When I first got my I-PACE, I actually bought a cheap no-name charger and it was a total disaster... it kept tripping the breaker cuz it couldnt handle the 11kW draw properly. It was honestly so frustrating and a huge waste of money ngl. Here is what I suggest for ur setup: * Go with ChargePoint for the home wallbox. Their software is usually highkey the most reliable for scheduling, even if the Jaguar app is a bit moody.
Basically since youre looking at that 11kW onboard charger, you really need to make sure the hardware matches the math. I am still learning the ropes myself, but i have been looking into the DIY side of things to save some cash on the installation. If you want something that feels super techy and fits in small spaces, maybe check out the Wallbox Pulsar Plus 48 Amp. Its pretty popular for DIY enthusiasts because the app is really detailed with power sharing features, though i am not 100 percent sure if it integrates perfectly with the Jaguar app for scheduling. For the cable, i found that some of the cheaper ones get really stiff in the cold. I have seen good reviews for the Phoenix Contact Type 2 Charging Cable because they are industrial grade and stay flexible even when it is freezing outside. Heres what i would look for as a fellow beginner:
Lol I was literally about to post the same thing. Glad someone else brought it up.
> What charging gear have you found to be the most dependable? Be careful with high-amperage continuous loads on older wiring because it's a legit fire risk if the install isn't 100% solid. Before I give advice, can you clarify if your home panel actually has the capacity for a 48A circuit?? That 11kW draw is basically a beast. I'd suggest making sure your electrician checks those thermal ratings before you commit to any hardware!!
