Which charging accessories are essential for a new Jaguar I-PACE?

So I just picked up my first ever Jaguar I-PACE and honestly I am totally lost with all the charging stuff. I look at websites and there are all these different cables and boxes and my head is spinning. My logic was that it would just come with everything I need but now I am seeing people talk about buying separate cables for when they go to the shops or work.

I live in a terrace house in Manchester so I might have to use public chargers sometimes but mostly I want to charge at home. Is a wallbox thing essential or can I just use a normal plug? I have about 500 pounds left in my car budget for this month. What do I actually need to buy right now so I dont get stranded...

TL;DR: Grab a public cable first. Does your terrace have off-street parking? Jaguar accessories are disappointing. The Ring Automotive RPEC720 32A Type 2 Cable is a good technical choice for your budget.

Honestly, its pretty disappointing that Jaguar doesnt just give you every single thing you need for such an expensive car. You're gonna find out real fast that charging from a basic 3-pin plug is basically useless for an I-PACE. I tried using a standard home cable for a week when I first got mine and it was a nightmare... it barely adds maybe 2 percent an hour. Since you're in a terrace in Manchester, you're also gonna have issues with trailing cables across the pavement, which is another headache. With 500 quid left, you need to prioritize these things right now so you dont get stuck:

  • A high-quality Type 2 to Type 2 cable. Most public chargers at shops or work are untethered, meaning they are just a socket in a post. If you dont bring your own lead, you cant charge at all. I bought the Metron Type 2 to Type 2 32A 5m Cable after having issues with a cheaper version that kept getting stuck in the car port.
  • A heavy-duty portable charger for home. Since a full wallbox install like the Zaptec Go 7.2kW Home Charger usually costs near a grand with labor, you'll need a reliable backup for the house. I suggest the Masterplug EV Charging Cable 10m 3-Pin to Type 2 because it handles the heat better than the generic ones. Unfortunately, relying on a normal plug is never as good as expected and it'll take nearly two days to charge an I-PACE from empty. You'll eventually need that wallbox for the 7kW speed, but for this month, those cables are your lifelines.
