Which off-road mods are essential for a Jeep Gladiator Mojave?

I recently joined the Jeep family with a Gladiator Mojave, and while I love the factory Fox shocks, I’m wondering what’s truly essential for hitting the trails. Since the Mojave is already desert-rated, I’m worried about the long wheelbase causing issues with the breakover angle when I'm not just on the sand. I’m torn between jumping straight to 35-inch tires or focusing on underbody armor first to protect the belly. I don’t want to mess up the specialized suspension valving, but I definitely need more clearance. For those of you who wheel your Mojave, what were your first few must-have upgrades to make it trail-ready without ruining the stock ride quality?

Yo! Honestly, welcome to the fam! That Mojave is literally amazing for high-speed desert runs, but i get it... that breakover angle on a 137-inch wheelbase is a real struggle on technical trails. Basically, breakover is the angle between your tires and the middle of your belly; the longer the truck, the easier it is to high-center. Since the Mojave sits lower than a Rubicon sometimes, you gotta be careful.

Here's what I recommend after wheeling mine:

* **Option A: 35s and a Level.** Ngl, jumping to Nitto Ridge Grappler 35x12.50R17 tires is a total game changer. If you pair them with a TeraFlex 1.5 Inch Performance Spacer Lift Kit, you keep those factory internal bypass Fox shocks but gain much needed clearance.
* **Option B: Belly Armor.** If you're hitting rocks, you definately need a Rock Hard 4x4 Gladiator Belly Skid Plate System. It's heavy, but it saves your transmission when you inevitably scrape.

I suggest the 35s first. It fixes the clearance without ruining that smooth Mojave valving. Plus, it looks soooo good!! gl!

Adding my two cents... quick question tho, what kind of trails are you mostly hitting? Technical rock crawling needs a different setup than just muddy forest service roads. Since you're worried about cost and that nasty breakover angle, you might want to look at the rear shock mounts first. They're basically the lowest point on the axle and get banged up constantly. I'd grab some Rancho JT Gladiator Rear Shock Skid Plates since they're cheap and protect those expensive Fox internals from getting crushed. For tires, if you want 35s but need to save cash, Milestar Patagonia M/T-02 35x12.50R17 is a really popular budget pick that actually performs well. They're lighter than most which is better for your suspension valving anyway. Keeping the unsprung weight low is key for the Mojave's specific tune.

stumbled upon this discussion and i feel u on the breakover struggle—that wheelbase is literally a boat on technical trails. if ur looking for a budget-friendly way to gain clearance without messing up those expensive internal bypass shocks, i'd actually suggest going with a "slim" approach. instead of a massive lift, just grab some Falken Wildpeak A/T3W 315/70R17 tires. they're basically 35s and usually a better value than the premium brands.

to help with the clearance without a huge price tag, check out the Synergy Manufacturing 0.75-inch Front Coil Spacer. it’s a cheap way to level it out while keeping the specialized valving intact. for protection, i’ve found the Asfir 4x4 Jeep Gladiator Engine and Gearbox Skid Plate to be a pretty solid, cost-effective choice compared to the heavy steel systems. it works great for moderate trails and wont break the bank. this setup basically gives u the clearance u need for way less cash. peace!
