I just picked up a Kia Telluride X-Line and I’m itching to take it beyond the pavement for some weekend camping trips. While it handles great on gravel, I’m a bit nervous about the factory ground clearance and how the stock tires will hold up when things get muddier. I’m specifically looking for recommendations on durable skid plates and some solid All-Terrain tires that won't ruin the smooth highway ride. Has anyone tried a small lift kit or found a specific roof rack that doesn't add too much wind noise? I really want to protect the underbody before hitting any moderate trails. What are the absolute 'must-have' off-road accessories you'd recommend for a Telluride?

Check out 'KiaTellurideForum.com'—it’s a goldmine for specs. Since clearance is tight, protecting the oil pan is vital, right? I’m happy with the No-Lo Designs Kia Telluride Skid Plate ($350). For tires, Nitto Terra Grappler G2 are solid budget options at $215. Also, the Snailfly Cross Bars for Kia Telluride are way cheaper than OEM at $140 and quiet. Just be cautious with lifts, they can stress axles... gl!

Just sharing my experience: I went through this last year and honestly, I learned the hard way that some "off-road" stuff just isn't worth the trade-off for a daily driver. I spent way too much on parts that I eventually had to swap out because they ruined the smooth ride.

1. BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO2 245/60R18 vs Toyo Open Country A/T III: I started with the BFGs, but they were highkey too heavy for the X-Line. My MPG tanked and the highway drone was annoying. I switched to the Toyos later and they’ve been way better—basically lighter and much quieter while still being solid in the mud.
2. Rhino-Rack Vortex Aero Bar vs Yakima OffGrid Cargo Basket: I tried a basket first cuz they look cool, but the wind noise was literally driving me crazy at 70mph. The Vortex bars are way more aerodynamic and didn't whistle as much.

Unfortunately, my first cheap spacer lift felt really stiff and actually messed with the factory dampening more than I expected. Basically, I found that rushing into the cheapest options was a mistake. gl!

So basically, protecting the undercarriage is key because factory clearance is tight. It's all about peace of mind. Here's what I recommend:
- Falken Wildpeak A/T Trail tires for quiet highway rides
- Truxx Front Skid Plate for protection
- Rough Country 2-inch Leveling Kit for a lift
- Thule WingBar Edge for a quiet roof rack
These options work decently for most needs. gl!

I've been looking into this quite a bit because I plan on keeping my X-Line for a long time and I'm really cautious about messing up the warranty or the smooth ride. If you're worried about tires, I'd look at these two:

  • Michelin LTX Trail: These are great for a cautious driver. They aren't super aggressive looking, but they're incredibly quiet on the highway and they last forever. Perfect for gravel and light mud without that annoying vibration.
  • Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain Plus: These give you a bit more grip if you think you'll actually hit deep mud, though they might hum a tiny bit more once they wear down. For the lift, I'd personally skip the basic spacer kits. I've been eyeing the Eibach Pro-Lift-Kit Springs. It only adds about an inch, but since it replaces the actual springs, it feels much more stable and safe for long-term driving. It won't stress your CV axles as much as the bigger lifts do. Lastly, for the roof, Yakima JetStream Crossbars are basically silent. I've had mine on for a while now and honestly forget they're even there most of the time. Hope that helps you feel a bit more confident hitting the trails!
