Hey everyone! I recently picked up a Land Rover Discovery 5, and with the rainy season coming up, I’m looking to swap out the factory carpets for something more rugged. I do a lot of weekend hiking and often end up tracking mud and grit into the cabin, so I need something that can handle a beating. I’ve been looking at the official Land Rover rubber mats versus WeatherTech or Husky Liners, but I’m worried about the fit around the seat tracks and whether they stay put. Does anyone have experience with which brand offers the best coverage for the footwells? I'm specifically looking for high edges to trap spills. What are you guys using to protect your floors?

For your situation, I'd actually look beyond the usual suspects. I honestly had a disappointing experience with the WeatherTech FloorLiner 1st and 2nd Row in my last rig—they felt too slippery and the edges started curling after one summer.

Warning: Avoid thin liners that don't have deep nibs on the bottom, as they tend to slide into the seat tracks.

Instead, I've been running 3D MAXpider KAGU Series Floor Mats in my Disco 5. They have a unique texture that doesn't feel like cheap plastic and the fit is absolutely laser-perfect around the footwells. Anyway, back to your question—if you need those high walls for mud, these are definitely the way to go over the OEM rubber ones! Good luck!

Hey! Congrats on the new Discovery 5, it's a beast of a machine. Before picking mats, it's worth noting that "all-weather" mats generally fall into two categories: soft rubber and hard thermoplastic. Soft rubber feels nicer but the hard plastic liners like WeatherTech FloorLiner 1st and 2nd Row for Land Rover Discovery 5 are way better at containing mud because they use a laser-measured "tray" design.

In my experience, I honestly think the Land Rover Discovery 5 Genuine OEM Rubber Floor Mat Set is decent for light rain, but the edges are pretty shallow. If you're tracking in real hiking mud, go for the Husky Liners WeatherBeater Front & 2nd Seat Floor Mats for Discovery 5. I've found they actually stay put better than WeatherTech thanks to those little "nibs" on the bottom. The coverage around the seat tracks is tight too, so grit doesn't migrate underneath. Definitely worth the investment if you wanna keep that interior mint. Hope this helps!

Hmm, I've had a different experience when it comes to those high-end liners. Respectfully, I'd consider another option if you're looking for the best bang for your buck without sacrificing the fit. I've been through a few Land Rovers over the years, and while the big names are okay, the price tag is usually pretty steep for something you're just gonna cover in mud. Anyway, back to your question—I've found that SMARTLINER Custom Fit Floor Mats for Land Rover Discovery 5 are a fantastic alternative. They have those high edges you're looking for to trap spills, but they're much more flexible and cost-conscious than WeatherTech. I was a bit cautious at first since they're cheaper, but the fit around the seat tracks is surprisingly tight. They don't slide around at all! Just make sure to use the factory retention clips. Honestly, for weekend hiking, these save you a ton of cash that you could spend on better gear instead. 🥾

Honestly, I'm still a bit of a beginner with mine, but I actually tried the DIY route first and well... it was kind of a mess. I bought some bulk industrial rubber to cut myself because I wanted to save money, but I got really worried about it sliding around near the pedals. Safety first, right? A few things I learned from my failed project:
* Measuring around those floor rails is a total nightmare.
* If u don't have the proper snap-in clips, the mat just bunches up under ur feet.
* Someone told me that generic heavy rubber can trap moisture underneath and ruin the carpets if there not vented right. Tbh I ended up just asking a local pro shop if they did custom installs. I'm not 100% sure what the best brand is yet, but I'm definitely staying away from the "cut-to-fit" stuff now. It just feels too risky for a car this nice, y'know?
