Best tow hitch accessories for hauling with a Discovery?

Hey everyone! I recently picked up a 2022 Discovery (P360) and I’m finally ready to put that legendary towing capacity to the test. We just bought a 23-foot travel trailer that weighs in at about 5,800 lbs fully loaded, and while I know the Disco is more than capable of handling the weight on paper, I want to ensure I have the absolute best gear for a rock-solid towing experience.

I’ve already got the factory tow package installed, but now I’m looking for the "must-have" accessories to round everything out. Specifically, I’m a bit torn on the hitch ball mount. Since the Discovery features that active air suspension, I’ve heard conflicting advice on whether I should go with a standard weight distribution hitch or if a high-quality adjustable drop hitch—like a Weigh Safe or a BulletProof hitch—is the better move to keep the geometry perfect.

I’m also really concerned about hitch rattle and security. On my previous SUV, the constant clanking from the receiver drove me crazy on long highway stretches. Are there specific anti-rattle clamps or locking pins that fit the Discovery’s recessed receiver well without interfering with the rear parking sensors? I'm also looking into a wireless brake controller, specifically the Curt Echo, but I’m worried about whether it plays nice with the Land Rover’s electrical system and the trailer's LED lights.

Ok so, I've been towing with my Land Rovers for over a decade and honestly, safety is everything when you're hitting the mountains. In my experience, the active air suspension on the Disco is a total game changer, but it can be a bit finicky if the geometry isn't perfect. I've tried many setups, and for a load like yours, I'd *strongly* suggest going with a high-quality adjustable drop hitch instead of a full weight distribution system. The air suspension actually handles the leveling itself, and sometimes those heavy WD hitches fight the car's computer, which is basically a recipe for a weird ride.

Here's what I've learned from my own setup:

* Use a heavy-duty adjustable mount (like a Weigh Safe or BulletProof) to get the trailer perfectly level before the car compensates.
* Get a u-bolt style anti-rattle clamp. It's the only way to stop that clanking since the receiver is so deep.
* Be careful with wireless controllers; I've had some interference issues with LED trailer lights on older rigs, so maybe check a LR forum for the latest software fix.

Quick question - before I dive into the market specs, do you know if your travel trailer has a *level* coupler height when it's sitting flat? For ur situation, I'd suggest taking a cautious approach with the hitch setup. I'm relatively new to this, but I did a ton of homework before our first trip because I was terrified of something failing in the mountains. Ngl, the air suspension makes things tricky to figure out at first.

1. **Weight Distribution vs. Drop Hitch**: In my experience, the car's active leveling system is so good that a WDH can actually be counterproductive. I went with a high-quality adjustable drop hitch—the one I got has built-in scales—and it kept everything perfectly level without messing with the onboard sensors.
2. **Hitch Noise**: I was super worried about that clanking too!! I used a simple heavy-duty tensioner clamp that wraps around the receiver. It's low-profile so it doesn't trip the parking sensors, and it LITERALLY silenced the whole rig.
3. **Brake Controller**: The wireless unit I use is great, but I did need a special LED adapter plug. Without it, the car's computer sometimes struggles to recognize the trailer is even there.
