Hey everyone! I’ve been taking my Discovery 4 out on more night trails lately, and I’ve quickly realized that the stock high beams just aren't cutting it when things get technical or the fog rolls in. I’m looking to upgrade my setup with some high-quality LED off-road lights, but I’m a bit overwhelmed by the options out there.
I’m trying to decide between a low-profile roof-mounted light bar or a pair of round LED pods mounted on the bumper or A-pillars. I really want to maintain that classic LR4 aesthetic without it looking too cluttered. One of my main concerns is the electrical side of things; I’ve heard the Discovery 4’s CAN bus system can be a bit sensitive, so I’m looking for a solution that won't cause any flickering or dashboard errors.
I’m specifically looking for a combo beam pattern that offers a good mix of distance and wide-angle flood for the sides of the trail. I’ve looked at some brands like Baja Designs and ARB, but I’m curious if there are other mid-range options that provide a great balance of durability and brightness. For those of you who have modified your Disco 4, what specific light brands and mounting brackets have you found work best for a clean, reliable install?

I went through this last year when I was prepping my D4 for some mountain trails! I was super worried about the CAN bus too, so I ended up using a LabCraft Discovery 4 CAN bus Interface to trigger a separate relay. It’s worked perfectly with zero dashboard errors. For lighting, I'm really happy with my Baja Designs Squadron Pro Driving/Combo LED Pods on the A-pillars and a Rigid Industries SR-Series Pro 20 Inch Spot/Flood Combo Light Bar on the bumper. The mix of distance and side-fill is solid, and it stays pretty low-profile. Good luck!
In my experience, the Lazer Lamps Triple-R 750 Elite grille kit is the best way to keep that classic LR4 look without the clutter. To dodge CAN bus issues, I've always used a dedicated relay triggered off the high beam feed. For a mid-range pod, Stedi Type-X Sport 7 Inch LED Driving Lights are seriously punchy and durable!
Seconding the recommendation above about using a dedicated relay; honestly, it's the only way to keep the D4 electronics happy long-term. In my experience, if you're looking for that mid-range sweet spot without the "Baja tax," I'd seriously look at the Rough Country 20-inch Black Series Dual Row LED Light Bar. I've run their gear for years and it's surprisingly durable for the price. For a clean pillar mount that doesn't scream for attention, the Front Runner Land Rover Discovery 4 Spotlight Brackets are bulletproof and keep things looking OEM. Just make sure you grab a STEDI High Beam Piggyback Adapter for Land Rover Discovery 4 to make the wiring a total breeze without cutting into the factory harness!
Late to the party but I'm satisfied sticking with bumper mounts. Roof bars reflect way too much off the hood in fog or dust, which is a safety issue honestly. For a solid mid-range choice that doesn't look like a spaceship, I've had zero issues with the Hella ValueFit 500 LED Driving Light Kit. They've got that classic round look that fits the LR4 perfectly and they've been very reliable through heavy rain and mud. Quick tip: go over to the disco3.co.uk forums and search for their wiring guides. They're a goldmine for D4 owners. To keep the electronics safe, I used a Blue Sea Systems 5025 ST Blade Fuse Block for all my extra gear. It keeps the factory wiring completely isolated, so you dont have to worry about the computer tripping out. Keeping it simple is always better with these trucks... saves a lot of headaches down the road.
