I recently picked up my new Lexus RZ 450e, and while I’m absolutely loving the drive and the interior, I’ve noticed that the door sills are already starting to show some light scuffs. With the way the car is designed, it seems like my passengers and I are naturally dragging our shoes across that area every time we get in or out. I really want to keep the car in pristine condition, especially since the finish looks so premium.
I’ve been looking at the official Lexus integrated illuminated sills, but they are a bit pricey and I’m not sure if I want to deal with the wiring. I’ve also seen some universal carbon fiber stickers and clear paint protection films (PPF) online, but I’m worried about them looking cheap or peeling off after a few car washes. Does anyone have experience with specific aftermarket brands that fit the RZ’s contours perfectly? I'm particularly interested in something that offers a nice balance between rugged protection and that high-end Lexus aesthetic.
Has anyone found a set of door sill protectors that look like they came from the factory but don't break the bank?
sooo i honestly think you should just grab some XPEL Door Sill Guard tape and do it yourself. its basically like a heavy duty, 8mil thick clear tape that you can cut to fit. its way more rugged than those cheap stickers but way cheaper than lexus parts, and most importantly, it wont slip and cause a trip hazard like those thick metal plates sometimes do. plus you dont gotta worry about wiring or anything weird like that lol. gl!
Quick question—before I dive into what I’ve tried, are you mostly seeing scuffs on the flat part of the sill or are people kicking the vertical plastic trim too? Knowing exactly where the damage is happening helps cuz the RZ has such a weirdly wide entry point.
Sooo, honestly, I’ve been through a bit of a nightmare trying to keep my own RZ looking fresh on a budget. I’m pretty new to the whole car protection world, but I’m super picky about that "Lexus look." Basically, I first tried these generic thick rubber guards I found on a random site... and yeah, they were a total disaster lol. They didn't stick right to the curves, and within a week, they were peeling up and trapping dirt underneath. It looked so cheap, I actually felt embarrassed when I had friends in the car. It’s kinda frustrating because you buy this premium EV and then the entry area just feels like a magnet for shoe grit.
I eventually ripped those off and went with a much thinner, textured vinyl setup. It wasn't as thick as the stainless steel stuff people usually talk about, but it blended in way better with the black trim. The big lesson I learned is that with the RZ’s contours, thickness is actually your enemy. If the material is too beefy, it wont sit flush and you’ll catch your heel on the edge every single time you get out.
My current setup is lowkey way more effective because it’s matte and hides the existing scratches without looking like a "mod," if that makes sense? I definitely had issues with the first few things I tried being too glossy. But yeah, let me know which specific area is getting beat up the most and I can tell you if a DIY wrap job is actually worth the headache or if you should just bite the bullet on something pre-cut! 👍
Sooo I went through this last year with my previous Lexus and basically had the same anxiety about those cheap-looking carbon stickers. I've tried many different setups over the years, and honestly, the technical fit is what usually kills the aesthetic. In my experience, if the material is too thick, it catches on the door seal and eventually starts peeling at the corners, which looks terrible after a few washes.
I decided to skip the pricey OEM lights this time and went with XPEL Door Sill Clear Universal Protection Film instead. It’s actually a 12-mil thick polyurethane that's way more rugged than that thin 3M stuff people usually grab. It’s lowkey invisible if you apply it right with a little soapy water and a squeegee. I also looked into the RUIYA Lexus RZ450e Stainless Steel Door Sill Scuff Plates because they have that factory brushed look but without the wiring nightmare. They’re like $50-60 on Amazon? Definately a better value proposition than the $400+ dealership option. Just gotta be careful with the alignment cuz that adhesive is SERIOUS once it touches the plastic haha. GL!
Can confirm

Sooo I totally get the frustration. I spent big on Lexus RZ 450e Illuminated Door Sills and honestly? Huge mistake. They’re pricey and the install was a massive pain with the wiring. For a cheaper, lowkey look, XPEL Ultimate Plus Paint Protection Film is way better. It’s basically invisible and super rugged. Or, if you want that factory vibe without the cost, check out RUIYA Lexus RZ450e Stainless Steel Door Sill Protectors. They look OEM but cost way less, right?
I’ve been down the DIY rabbit hole with my last few builds and tbh, the RZ presents a bit of a challenge because of that compound curve on the sill. If you’re a perfectionist like me, the "universal" pre-cut kits usually leave a gap that drives me crazy. I usually buy bulk rolls of high-grade TPU film and custom cut it because I want to wrap the edge deep into the door seal for that seamless look. It’s definitely a bit of a learning curve with the slip solution and tacking it down without getting silvering or "fingers" on the edges, ngl. But yeah, before you dive in, are you looking to just cover the top flat surface, or are you trying to do a full wrap-around that covers the painted radius too? Also, do you already have a heat gun or a decent steamer? That makes a massive difference on these modern Lexus contours if youre going the DIY route. Doing it yourself can look factory-grade if you have the patience, but the prep work is realy everything.
