Hey everyone! I recently took delivery of my Lexus RZ 450e, and while I am absolutely loving the smooth ride and the silent cabin, I’m having a bit of a struggle with the built-in wireless charging pad. It seems like my iPhone 15 Pro with a slim MagSafe case constantly loses its connection or barely charges at all while I'm driving. Even a slight turn seems to shift the phone just enough to stop the charging process, which is pretty frustrating during longer commutes.
I’ve tried repositioning the phone multiple times, but the charging speeds feel sluggish compared to what I’m used to at home. I’m considering getting an aftermarket wireless charger that might fit better in the center console or perhaps a high-quality vent-mounted MagSafe option that doesn't ruin the aesthetic of the Lexus interior. I really want to keep the cabin looking clean and clutter-free, so I’m hesitant to just buy a random cheap cradle from Amazon.
Has anyone else with a Lexus EV (like the RZ or even the UX 300e) found a specific brand or model of wireless charger that fits perfectly and actually stays connected? I’m looking for something that supports fast charging and can handle the occasional bump in the road without disconnecting. My budget is around $60-$100 for a quality solution that feels premium enough for the car.
Does anyone have a specific recommendation for a wireless charger that integrates well with the Lexus console layout and provides a reliable, fast charge?
Sooo, I actually had a similar nightmare with my RZ when I first got it. I was so stoked on the car, but that charging pad is basically a glorified phone tray, tbh. I tried a few things, but I gotta WARN you: avoid those super cheap generic MagSafe pucks you see everywhere. They get CRAZY hot in the console and basically stop charging anyway to protect the battery, which is exactly what you dont want for a $1000 iPhone.
Basically, I ended up getting a MagSafe mount from ProClip that attaches to the dash. It's a bit more expensive, but the stability is awesome. For your situation, I mean, if you want to keep the console look, maybe check out some of the custom-fit inserts from brands like ESR or even Belkin. I'm pretty satisfied with my current setup cuz it actually holds the charge through corners... honestly, just make sure whatever you get has official MFi certification or it's gonna be a sluggish mess. gl!
Curious about one thing: are you looking for a mount that stays *completely* inside the console area, or would you be open to a vent mount that sits higher up? I'm honestly so happy with the RZ but that charger is definitely its weak point. I've been comparing the iPhone+15+Pro&linkCode=osi&------123456890?5422-20" target="_blank" rel="nofollow sponsored">Lisen MagSafe Car Mount for iPhone 15 Pro vs the ESR MagSafe Car Mount Charger with 15W Fast Charging, but I'm worried about cable clutter or blocking the vents. Lmk where you'd prefer it to sit so I can help! tbh safety is my main concern cuz those sliding phones are so distracting while driving...
Sooo, similar situation here - I went through this exact struggle last year with my RZ. I was honestly pretty worried about messing up the dash with some bulky mount, but I also didn't wanna spend a fortune. My journey was kinda trial and error:
- I tried those cheap sticky pads first... basically a waste of $20 cuz they kept sliding.
- IIRC, I eventually tried a magsafe vent mount from a brand like ESR or Belkin?
- It worked okay, but I was always scared the weight might snap the vent slats lol.
Not 100% sure if that's the "premium" vibe you're after, but it was definitely better than the built-in tray! Good luck!
Oh man, I totally feel u on this! I've been driving Lexus models for years and honestly, their built-in wireless pads have always been a bit of a letdown... literally the one thing that bugs me about the brand lol. Congrats on the RZ tho!! It's such a smooth ride, but yeah, that sliding phone issue is highkey annoying when you're just tryna navigate and keep your battery topped up.
Basically, the problem is that the OEM pads don't have enough grip or strong enough magnets to hold an iPhone 15 Pro in place, especially with the camera bump. For your situation, I've found that going with an aftermarket brand like ESR or Spigen is the way to go. You honestly can't go wrong with any of their MagSafe-compatible car mounts!
I mean, I've tried a bunch over the last few years and the ones that clip onto the vents or use a strong adhesive mount are sooo much better than the console pad. Just get a high-wattage MagSafe charger from one of those brands and it'll stay locked on even if you're taking sharp turns or hitting bumps. It keeps the cabin looking clean too if you tuck the wire away properly. Plus, it actually charges fast unlike the built-in one which just kinda heats up the phone without adding much juice. Seriously, it's a total game changer for longer commutes. Good luck with the new ride!! 👍
