Hey everyone! I’ve been driving my Mazda3 for about six months now, and while I absolutely love the interior layout and that driver-centric cockpit feel, the stock rubber pedals are starting to look a little 'commuter-ish' to me. I’m really looking to spice up the footwell with some sleek, metallic pedal covers to give it that sporty, high-end feel—similar to what you’d see in the Turbo trims or higher-end sports cars.
I’ve been browsing a few options online, but I’m a bit torn. I see some of the official Mazda accessory sets, which look great but are definitely on the pricier side. Then there are the generic 'clip-on' versions from Amazon and eBay that are super cheap, but I’m worried about them slipping off while I’m driving or feeling flimsy under my feet. Safety is obviously my top priority, so I don't want anything that's going to slide around when my shoes are wet.
Specifically, I'm looking for a set that fits the bottom-hinged accelerator pedal perfectly. I’ve noticed a lot of universal kits don't seem to account for the unique shape of the Mazda3's gas pedal. I’m also curious if most of you prefer the 'drill-in' type for maximum stability, or if there are high-quality 'slip-on' versions that actually stay put without rattling. My budget is around $50–$120, but I’m willing to stretch it if the quality is significantly better.
Does anyone have a specific brand or kit they’ve installed on their Gen 4 (or Gen 3) Mazda3 that they absolutely love? I’d really appreciate seeing some photos of how they look installed and hearing how they’ve held up over time. Also, how difficult was the installation process for the dead pedal? Any recommendations would be a huge help!
Did this last week, worked perfectly
yo! i totally get it, those stock rubber pedals are basically the only thing that feels 'basic' in the mazda3 cockpit. i've been messing with interior mods for years and honestly, the pedals are a HUGE upgrade for that sporty vibe. basically, the metal covers provide better grip when it's raining cuz of the rubber studs, and they just look way more premium than the plain black plastic.
here's what i recommend based on my own car:
- seriously, just go with the official mazda accessory sets. they're a bit pricey but the fitment on that floor-hinged gas pedal is LITERALLY perfect. i've seen so many cheap universal kits that look janky or slip off, which is super dangerous.
- if you want a budget-friendly route that actually stays put, check out some of the high-quality aluminum slip-on brands on ebay/amazon that are specifically molded for mazda. just make sure they've got the rubber backing that wraps all the way around.
- for the dead pedal, most kits just use heavy-duty adhesive or screws. i've had mine for 3 years and it hasn't budged once!
installation is kinda a pain in the ass cuz you gotta stretch the rubber over the brake pedal, but it's sooo worth it in the end. gl! 👍
Just sharing my experience: I went through this exact same dilemma last year! I really wanted that OEM vibe but honestly couldn't justify the $150+ price tag from the dealer. I ended up grabbing some Asety Aluminum Alloy Pedal Covers for Mazda3 Gen 4 for about $35, and honestly? They've been amazing. They're the slip-on type, so no drilling into that bottom-hinged gas pedal, which was a huge relief. Installation was a bit of a workout for my thumbs lol, but they've stayed rock solid for 10k miles now. Total budget win!!
TL;DR: Skip the overpriced OEM; high-quality $30-40 slip-ons look just as sporty and stay put.
Building on the earlier suggestion about the thumb workout during install, man that really hits home. Ive had so many issues with these interior bits that look easy but turn into a nightmare. Unfortunately, it reminds me way too much of when my brother in law decided to swap the entire center console trim on his old CX-5 last summer. He thought it would be a quick thirty minute job while we were waiting for the grill to heat up for a bbq. Well, three hours later, we are both crouched in the footwell with flashlights because he dropped one of those tiny metal retaining clips into the abyss behind the dash. We spent the whole afternoon fishing for it with a magnet on a string while the burgers literally turned into charcoal on the deck. He never even got the new trim piece to sit flush after that anyway, so now theres this weird rattling sound every time he hits a pothole. Pretty sure that clip is still rattling around in the frame somewhere too... just a total disaster of an afternoon tbh.
