I recently took delivery of my new EQS, and while the 56-inch Hyperscreen is absolutely stunning, it’s a total fingerprint magnet. I’m starting to get nervous about micro-scratches from constant cleaning, not to mention the glare during midday drives. Since it’s such a massive, curved piece of glass, I really want something that fits perfectly without bubbling. I've been looking at some tempered glass options versus matte films, but I'm worried about losing that OLED crispness or affecting the touch sensitivity. Has anyone found a high-quality protector that handles the curves well and has a solid oleophobic coating? Which brands are you guys using to keep that massive dash looking brand new?
Honestly, similar situation here. I went through this last year and it was highkey stressful because of the safety aspect. I was worried a thick glass protector might shatter in an accident or mess with the airbag deployment near that curved dash.
Unfortunately, the first setup I tried had issues:
* The edges started lifting almost immediately because of the curve.
* Glare was actually WORSE during midday drives.
* Touch sensitivity felt kinda laggy.
I ended up swapping to my current setup which is a thinner, flexible material. It doesn't feel as premium as glass, but it definitely feels safer and stays put! tbh just glad I don't see micro-scratches anymore.
Seconding the recommendation above! Matte vs. glass is basically a tradeoff between fingerprints and clarity. I think a generic high-end tempered glass is the better long-term value since films peel at the edges. Not sure if the curve affects sensitivity, but IIRC, dry application kits are easier on the wallet. Honestly, *microfiber cloths* and a cheap ceramic spray might be more cost-effective than an expensive protector tho. gl!
Honestly, I've had issues with the cheap films and they're basically a waste of money because they never sit right on those 56-inch curves. If you're really worried about that OLED clarity, you gotta be CAREFUL with matte stuff because it definitely kills the contrast.
You might find this useful—check out the Spigen Glas.tR EZ Fit Tempered Glass Screen Protector for Mercedes-Benz EQS Hyperscreen. It's pretty much the gold standard for fitment since it uses a mounting frame, though it's still a massive job to align. I also looked at the ScreenProTech Mercedes EQS Hyperscreen Interior Protection Kit which uses a wet-install film that handles the edges way better than dry glass, but it's not as good as expected if you aren't a pro at squeegeeing.
Idk, maybe talk to a professional detailer first? These screens are SO expensive to replace if you mess up the oleophobic coating with the wrong adhesive... just saying. gl!
Oh man, congrats on the EQS!! I totally feel u on the fingerprint struggle... it's literally a full-time job keeping that glass clean. Honestly, I was sooo nervous about the curves too, but I ended up going with a matte film for my setup. Tbh, it does dull the OLED pop a tiny bit, but the trade-off for zero glare and no smudges is totally worth it imo. Just make sure to take ur time with the install cuz bubbles are the worst!!
Just saw this thread and honestly, as someone who loves a good DIY project, the Hyperscreen is basically the final boss of screen protectors lol. > I ended up going with a matte film for my setup. Tbh, it does dull the OLED pop a tiny bit, but the trade-off for zero glare and no smudges is totally worth it imo. I totally agree with this—matte is really the only way to go if you actually want to use the car during the day without being blinded. But here is the thing about the DIY route: most people fail because they try to do a dry application. If youre going to do it yourself, you really want to look into a "wet install" film like the VViViD Matte Clear Vinyl Wrap or a pre-cut Rwraps Matte Screen Protection Kit. The reason its so hard is because that glass has a slight 3D contour, not just a simple curve. When you use a soapy water solution—like literally just a drop of baby shampoo in a spray bottle—you can slide the film around until its perfect. I helped a buddy do this on his EQS and it took like two hours just to get the cabin dust-free enough. If youre not super confident in your hands, taking it to a local shop to have them cut some XPEL STEALTH film might be better. Its wayyy more expensive but honestly less stressful than wasting a $60 kit if you mess up the alignment!
