I just picked up a new Frontier and want to get it trail-ready. I’m looking for functional exterior upgrades for rocky terrain, specifically:

  • Heavy-duty rock sliders
  • Low-profile roof rack

I’m worried about added weight and wind noise. What are the absolute must-have exterior accessories you guys recommend for a solid off-road build?

Regarding what #1 said about "> Low-profile roof rack For your situation, I..."

  • I was also super paranoid about the noise. The thread has covered some high-end gear like Prinsu and Sherpa for weight and noise management, plus those White Knuckle sliders, but I wanted to share what worked for me on a slightly tighter budget without sacrificing reliability. I've been running my setup for a while now and I am really satisfied with how it handles the trail. I basically wanted something that wouldn't whistle at highway speeds or kill my MPG.
  • Victory 4x4 Nissan Frontier Roof Rack: Pros are the easy install and it is dead silent on the highway. Cons might be slightly fewer accessory mounts than a Sherpa, but for my recovery boards it works well. It is aluminum which helps with that center of gravity issue mentioned earlier.
  • Rocky Road Outfitters Nissan Frontier Rock Sliders: Pros are definitely the price and pure durability. Cons? They are steel so they are heavier than aluminum, but I trust them more when I'm actually dropping onto a rock. They've taken some nasty hits and the powder coat is still holding up. Focusing on the weight and the noise is definitely the move... you dont want your truck sounding like a jet engine on the way to the trail.

  • Warning: avoid heavy steel cuz it basically kills ur center of gravity
  • Curious about one thing: whats ur planned static load?
  • Aluminum extrusions rly save weight
