What home charging cables or wall boxes are you guys using for the Nissan Ariya?

Ive been looking at the GrizzlE and Emporia but the reviews are all over the place and Im freaking out because my car arrives next week in Ohio and I have nothing ready. My budget is $500. Do I need a specific surge protector?...

I remember when I first got into EVs years ago, I was panic-buying every accessory under the sun. Honestly, the Ariya is a beast but it doesn't need anything super fancy to charge. My first charger was some overpriced techy thing that died the second we hit a real Midwest winter. Total waste of money. Since then, I've stuck to the basics to save cash and it's worked out way better. For a budget under 500 bucks, you really can't go wrong with the Grizzl-E Classic Level 2 EV Charger 40A NEMA 14-50. I've had mine through three Ohio winters now and it just works. No apps, no drama, just a solid metal box. If you really want the data and smart features tho, the Emporia Level 2 EV Charger 48A Hardwired/Plug-in is basically the best value for money right now. It usually hovers around 400 bucks and gives you all the energy monitoring stuff without the premium price tag of some other brands. About the surge protector thing... most of these UL-listed units have basic protection built-in, but I actually spent a little extra to have my electrician install a Square D Hepd80 Home Electronics Protective Device at the main panel. Tbh it's way cheaper than replacing a fried charger or car components if you get a nasty spike during a storm. Just stick to the Grizzl-E if you want durability on a budget.

^ This. Also, jumping in because you gotta be careful with the actual outlet. If you want solid gear under $500, maybe look at:
